The UKDel OECD in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (including the British Embassy in Paris, offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille and representation to int. organisations (UNESCO, CoE)) and is now looking to recruit three Interns for the UK Delegation to the OECD (UKDEL OECD).

The UKDEL OECD helps ensure that the UK derives maximum benefit from its membership of the leading multilateral organization in sustainable and inclusive economic development. The successful candidate will help support UKDEL OECD in its role of representing the UK at a key multilateral organisation of ever increasing importance to the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in fast paced and dynamic team to support UKEL OECD to deliver on top HMG priorities articulated in the recently published Global Britain in a Competitive Age: the Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy alongside supporting the UK’s role as host to COP26.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

We are recruiting 3 interns to provide support to UK Delegation teams covering the following  areas: Economic and Social Affairs; Development; Regulatory Diplomacy; Trade and Business; Environment and Energy and general support to the Delegation.

Examples of work that the successful candidates might undertake include:

  • Monitoring key OECD policy meetings and outputs, and producing regular reports for officials in Whitehall in the FCO network;
  • Providing logistical and policy support for high-level events including the annual Ministerial Council Meeting and visits to the OECD, including attending preparatory meetings, organising papers and registration, writing briefings and official reports, helping draft external comms lines etc;
  • Working with Team Leaders and liaising with UK government departments to develop the UK approach to important policy issues at the OECD;
  • Helping the Delegation drive forward UK priorities in key OECD policy-focused committees such as the Trade Committee, Development Assistance Committee, Economic Policy Committee etc;
  • Identifying further opportunities for the UK to benefit from the OECD’s current and future work streams to achieve policy objectives;
  • Supporting the relevant team with ad hoc specific activities;
  • Administrative and organisational support to the wider team.
  • Full professional proficiency in English, including excellent writing skills* (C1 Level);
  • Master’s degree (completed or in progress) in economics, social policy or related fields;
  • Knowledge/interest public policy, economics and foreign policy;
  • Excellent communication skills (including written/spoken English) and good judgement with an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong attention to detail;
  • The ability to deliver quickly, and show flexibility in the face of changing priorities or demands;
  • Resourcefulness and ability to act on own initiative, with an ability to find creative solutions and knowing when to ask for support/guidance.
  • Good project management skills and an understanding of how to present information;
  • Self-starter, drive and enthusiasm, with the ability to deliver, working as a part of a team;
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with respect for diversity;
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.

This is a  full-time and temporary internship position of up to 6 months, with target start date mid September. 

At the beginning of your internship you should be able to provide us with a convention de stage provided by your university/higher education establishment and liability Insurance to cover your period of internship at the British Embassy.

All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at https://www.cjn.justice.gouv.fr/cjn/b3/eje20 ), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.
