The British Embassy in Sofia is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now offering an internship opportunity in the Department for International Trade (DIT).

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to succeed in Bulgaria and other international markets. DIT also assists overseas companies to bring high-quality investment to the UK’s economy.

The successful candidate will support trade advisers in delivering services to UK companies in Bulgaria in accordance with the annual business plan. 

Roles and responsibilities

  • Research and post export opportunities on the online platform, and support UK companies in responding to these opportunities;
  • Gathers information and prepares written reports on key sectors of interest; monitors upcoming tender procedures and report writing;
  • Supports DIT team members in organising events including preparing invitations, following-up, building lists and other activities;
  • Work on ad-hoc work requests from across the team and deliver them in a timely manner.
  • Fluency in English and Bulgarian is a must (both oral and written, minimum C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*);
  • Only students in their last year of studies and recent graduates will be considered for this position;
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and highly creative team player with a proven passion for public communications.
  • Good communication and organisational skills;
  • Basic administrative skills – Use of Windows Office and web search;
  • Experience in working in office environment.

This is a full-time internship position (36 hours per week) for 9 months.

The successful candidate will receive a monthly salary of BGN 650 gross as well as BGN 50 net transport allowance per month throughout the duration of the internship.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Bulgaria may apply, including all EU/EEA citizens and the family members of EU/EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Bulgaria.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Bulgarian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Bulgaria and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
