The British Embassy in Kyiv, part of a world-wide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts representing British political, economic and consular interests, is looking for a Trade Adviser. Working for the Department of International Trade, the job holder will assist British companies to make full use of the commercial opportunities in Ukraine and to deliver significant business outcomes. The role involves identifying relevant opportunities and business partnerships, answering questions about the local market, designing and running events to promote UK companies. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve results within budget and meeting DIT’s corporate standards for quality of service.

Main duties and responsabilities

  • Identify commercial opportunities for UK companies on the basis of market research and analysis. Advise British businesses on such opportunities. Act as a point of contact for British businesses / investors wishing to explore opportunities in Ukraine;
  • Lead on matching the UK offer to local market opportunities in certain industries and develop a pipeline of Export Wins;
  • Plan and deliver targeted campaigns and activities (e.g. trade missions, seminars) in order to promote UK goods and services. Meet Business Plan targets, including charges for services;
  • Develop a strong network of contacts in the public and private sector and facilitate introductions to further UK business interests;
  • Close links developed and maintained with other Embassy teams and DIT colleagues in the UK and across the region;
  • Develop a prospective client list and generate meetings for DIT customers. Coordinate and participate in such meetings with senior Embassy colleagues or external stakeholders. Build relationships with external stakeholders.
  • A proven track record of market analysis experience and building relationships with customers;
  • Advanced marketing skills;
  • Strong networking skills and ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders;
  • Excellent Power Point and Excel skills;
  • At least 2 year experience in a marketing, business development, strategy, consulting or financial services role;
  • Team player (you will be part of a high performing and ambitious team);
  • A good understanding of the Ukrainian business environment;
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral) in English, Ukraine and Russian;
  • Experience in facilitating meetings or workshops and comfortable in speaking to senior audiences.



  • Experience in project management is an advantage;
  • An understanding of the UK business environment.

This is a permanent full-time position of 40 working hours per week including 1 hour per day for lunch. Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ukraine is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Ukrainian employment law.

Visa/passport requirements: Must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Ukraine and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.
