Main purpose of job:

The Chief of Staff will assist the Consul-General and Deputy Consul-General in the arrangement of senior meetings, organisation of inward visits, events / budgets and communication of their work. They will also be a part of promoting the UK’s commercial, economic and political interests in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania via involvement in projects and building networks in addition to contributing to analysis and reporting of key developments affecting UK interests in these areas in these states. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide daily administrative support to the Consul-General and Deputy Consul-General, including to ensure the whole Consulate team is kept updated on their forward diaries and engaged where appropriate in external meetings and their preparation  
  • Design and organise programmes of inward visits, including accompanying visitors.
  • Lead on events – logistics, budgets and implementation
  • Work with the Consul-General and Deputy Consul-General to prepare and implement stakeholder engagement strategies across priority areas, seeking input from others in the Consulate and across the wider network
  • Represent the Consulate at appropriate external engagements, reporting as necessary.
  • Contribute to analysis, briefings and recommendations on economic, political and policy developments to the Consul-General and Deputy Consul-General, colleagues in the UK network across Australia and with London as necessary

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

  • Consul-General’s annual budget (in consultation with Consul-General)
  • Oversee recruitment, management, mentoring and output of interns  
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong administrative, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership credentials, with evidence of working across broad teams and inspire them to deliver high quality outcomes
