The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government department responsible for promoting British trade across the world and ensuring the UK takes advantage of the huge opportunities open to us.

This is an exciting opportunity at the forefront of the British Government’s growth agenda, to achieve a step change of bilateral trade and Inward Investment for the Tech sector in the UK. You will be responsible in helping UK enterprises win more high value business deals and export to China, and to secure new and increased quality investment from China into the UK. To achieve this, you will build strong relationships with key multipliers and industry bodies and business clients. You will identify, design and manage specific campaigns, projects and visits to win support for DIT’s export and investment agenda. You will provide support on market access issues as well as promoting UK Tech excellence in China market.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Supporting high impact campaigns, events and visits

Support the delivery and follow-up of high-level campaigns, events and visits that contribute to sector targets. Plan and manage practical and logistical aspects of important activities including HMG visitor’s programmes and inward/outward missions (by Chinese companies to the UK and UK companies to China); working with CBBC and other networks where appropriate.

Effective client management and pipeline building

Take a systematic approach in building relationship with clients at different levels and look for opportunities to deploy senior officials to unlock/enhance relationships. Develop a strategy to acquire new trade & investment opportunities and develop account management plans accordingly. Maintain a close working relationship with sector team members in other posts, other teams, and partners.

Supporting tech team’s export wins and foreign direct investment targets

  • Contribute to regional and national strategy development for the sector. Identify and analyse on trends and developments in China and UK markets, and key companies in targeted sub-sectors.
  • Develop a personal understanding of the key Chinese companies and organisations in North China in the tech sector. Work with sector colleagues around China and the UK to raise awareness of opportunities through relevant channels.

Knowledge and Skills development

Undertake continuous learning and development, including on-the-job opportunities to deepen knowledge of the tech sector, the UK capability landscape, and the regional business environment, learning from others across DIT and the wider Embassy/Consulate, as well as webinars and training courses.

  • Strong team-working ability, with experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships across the network
  • Attention to detail, excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese
  • Good networking skill in international business or in trade and investment promotion.
  • Analytical skills and ability to customise UK capabilities to the targeted Chinese investors and opportunities in a tangible way
  • Networks within relevant technology sector/sub-sectors either in China or in the UK and able to identify companies with an appetite to grow

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross salary (before all deductions) is CNY 17, 670 per month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary of CNY 24, 529 per month for British Nationals and spouses/partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.

We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata. Conditioned working hours is 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs.
