The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Trade Officer, Healthcare under the Department for International Trade (DIT) on a fixed-term contract for one (1) year, with a possibility of renewal.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the British Government’s trade and investment development organisation. Its aim is to enhance the competitiveness of companies in the UK through overseas trade and investments; and attract a continuing high-level of quality foreign direct investment into the UK. We work with UK-based businesses to ensure their success in international markets and encourage overseas companies to bring their high-quality investment to the UK.

DIT has a network of three trade teams in Saudi Arabia (in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar) that work closely together to deliver services to our customers.

The Trade Officer will support the Senior Trade Advisors in the Healthcare and Life Sciences sector. The job will involve supporting trade promotion activity, administrative support, maintaining and updating contact databases and activity plans, and supporting logistics of events and arranging webinars. The jobholder will also need to be flexible and may be required to shift focus and respond to changes to sector priorities based on operational requirements as guided by the DIT KSA Director.

 

Duties and responsibilities

The role includes the following core responsibilities: 

  • Support the Senior Trade Advisors for Healthcare and Life Sciences, and develop and engage in a wide range of relationships in Saudi public and private sector organisations to understand and promote commercial opportunities in the Healthcare sector.
  • Support the Senior Trade Advisors in arranging visits by DIT sector specialists with in-country support, including (but not limited to) official programmes, trade missions, events and trade shows.
  • Provide support to private sector stakeholders, promoting opportunities within UK plc, seeking to increase UK commercial wins and meet DIT targets within the Healthcare sector.
  • Provide basic market analysis and guidance on doing business in Saudi Arabia to UK companies.
  • Maintain and update activity plans and buyer and seller lists.
  • Provide logistical support on organising webinars and other virtual trade promotion activity.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK citizens.

Eligibility:

The position is available to Saudi Nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqamas. Applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their KSA iqama as part of their application.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to influence and network confidently with industry leaders, government officials, and senior business people; and collaborate effectively across Embassy teams.

  • Strong IT skills and well versed in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Previous commercial experience and working in a target driven environment.
  • Arabic language skills (for liaising with KSA government and stakeholders).
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience in the healthcare sector.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 5,775.06
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 1,443.77 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Total - SAR 7,618.83

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week. Normal working hours for the Embassy are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs.

The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening/ weekend). Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
