The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (including offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille and representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE)). We are currently looking for an IT Support Officer (ITSO) to support and facilitate IT for all France Network users.

The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to customer requests by diagnosing and resolving problems and for supporting the ongoing technology needs of all employees by providing help desk support. The jobholder will work with a broad range of infrastructure products and basic networking components and will need to provide maintenance and support for client products and work on one or more projects concurrently as a team member. 

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • First point of contact and day-to-day technical support to end users;
  • Provide Office 365 training and support to users;
  • Assist in data management projects;
  • Liaise with the UK Helpdesk and support teams, escalating problems when necessary;
  • Participate in the Embassy modernisation project: preparation of staff moves, IT equipment removal/installation;
  • Respond to IT requests via multiple sources such as phone, MS Teams and e-mail;
  • Diagnose problems by evaluating multiple options;
  • Develop checklists and scripts for resolving routine problems;
  • Communicate updates on issues and recurring problems in a timely manner to ensure client satisfaction and productivity;
  • Configure and install desktop PCs, peripheral equipment, laptops, mobile phones, tablets and telephony;
  • Follow established procedures for performing configuration changes, updates and upgrades;
  • Perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications;
  • Provide technical support to meetings that include video conferencing;
  • Diagnose and resolve client workstation and mobile device hardware and software issues;
  • Explain service procedures to clients. Follow up in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction;
  • Maintain IT inventory management for all IT equipment and/or software in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Proficient in English (both written and spoken, minimum of C1 level according to the CEFR framework*);
  • Basic level of French (minimum of A2 level according to the CEFR framework*);
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Experience in working at a helpdesk/support role;
  • Experience in working with Windows 10 and Office 365;
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple priorities effectively;
  • Proactive attitude, being able to find solutions and being responsive to changing priorities;
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills;
  • Flexibility to travel around the France Network if necessary.
  • Experience in working with Windows Server Management;
  • Experience in working with Internet or telecom service providers;
  • ITIL foundation level or a relevant IT qualification.

This is a full-time position and permanent contract of 35 hours a week (working both remotely or onsite as required).

All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance.
