Main purpose of job

The Communications Assistant for the Department for International Trade (DIT) will support the communications and digital strategy, acting as a creator and editor of  multiplatform content.  The successful candidate will be a proactive member of the Communications and DIT teams by providing baseline support to help build an effective and efficient strategy, and increase DIT’s digital presence on trade and commercial initiatives.  The jobholder will report to the Head of Communications on communication responsibilities and to the DIT Director and Deputy Director for specific tasks, based on the communications, trade and commercial guidelines given by them.

What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

1.     Press & Social Media (50%)

  • Assist with improving DITs presence on digital and media outlets by implementing the Communications Strategy.
  • Create and design first level drafts of innovative multiplatform (infographics, videos, gifs, etc.) content, based on given guidelines to support specific activities or develop campaigns.
  • Liaise with Digital DIT LATAC team and assist them in applying their initiatives in the digital Colombia landscape.
  • Monitor daily national media in economic and commercial issues, and press and social media, in economic, trade and investment activity.
  • Prepare first drafts of press releases, profiles and press material about Embassy’s commercial objectives.
  • Gather, draft and recover information on DIT initiatives.
  • Assist with creating Digital Plans for DIT visits or digital events.
  • Conduct research on key contacts in the media related to DIT’s projects and interests and assist the team in engaging with them. 

2.     Events (20%)

  • Assist with coordinating the logistics for events and visits with DIT and the Press.
  • Update Embassy Events Planner with DIT events.
  • Assist the team with media engagement and coordination during DIT events, visits and agendas.

3.     Sponsorship programme (15%)

  • Maintain the sponsorships project database, and assist in the identification of new sponsor opportunities with British companies for the British Embassy.
  • Provide support with organising meetings with prospective British sponsors.
  • Assist Press and Public Affairs (PPA) and DIT on scheduling meetings for sponsorship programmes.
  • Assist with keeping a record of all meetings.

4.     Design and Marketing (15%)

  • Assist with designing marketing material (brochures, images, posters, invitations, among others).
  • Assist with downloading and producing multimedia material such as videos and photographs.
  • Support UK’s national branding, commonly known as GREAT Brand, in Colombia. Managing its marketing resource centres to assist by producing multimedia material.

Essential on arrival:

  • Passionate about the quickly evolving digital environment.
  • Experience of at least one (1) year in digital communications.
  • Experience collaborating closely with key decision makers.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (writing and spoken).
  • Knowledge and interest of economic and commercial issues.
  • Available full-time and able to work sporadically on nights and weekends when there are events.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Recent graduate in the administrative field.

Desirable

  • Experience working in an international environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of other multimedia editing programs.
  • Advanced video and photography skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere.

Working hours:
