View Vacancy - Biodiversity and Climate Change Officer
Main purpose of job: Protecting biodiversity and combatting climate change through sustainable and inclusive economic growth are critical challenges in Peru and priorities for the UK. This job will offer you the chance to lead on bilateral policy work between the UK and Peru in areas including illegal wildlife trade, oceans, clean growth and biodiversity, as well as be responsible for suggesting appropriate communication and small-scale project activities to support these objectives. You will report to the Climate Change & COP26 Policy Manager and ensure that our longer-term work protecting biodiversity and tackling climate change in Peru complements diplomatic action to support successful delivery of post-COP26 commitments in Peru Nature protection and climate action is at the heart of UK-Peru collaboration and you will be working together with colleagues across the Embassy including trade, political, climate finance and science to share and promote the UK’s expertise in these areas. | |
Roles and responsibilities: This is a varied and exciting role and we are looking for someone who is passionate about working on biodiversity and nature and wants to make a difference. Some of the responsibilities of the role include:
The successful candidate will be encouraged to propose new initiatives in line with the UK’s objectives in Peru. As such, it offers an opportunity to help shape the agenda over the next couple of years. They will also be expected to play an active role in the corporate life of the Embassy to maximise the overall wellbeing of staff, and to contribute to the Embassy’s response in case of a crisis. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate very strong written and oral communication skills, including in English; the ability to form coherent arguments and persuade someone (often more senior) of your point of view is essential. They will need to be a team player, and demonstrate both resilience and flexibility to respond to developing priorities. They will also need to demonstrate knowledge of biodiversity and climate policy in Peru and globally, while also being capable of learn and respond to emerging priorities. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in Peru in their own right. The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount. |
