The Ministry of Defence (MOD) section at the British Embassy Beirut has a vacancy for the position of MOD Defence Driver, Grade – S1.

Main purpose of job:

Driving of the DA, Deputy DA and Assistant DA and affording personal protection, as the prevailing security situation dictates is necessary.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Duties typically include ensuring the safety and security of the DA/DDA/ADA against threats to the vehicle through: 

  • Comply with Road Safety Guidelines - JSP 800 Vol 5.
  • Preparation and maintenance of all Defence Section Vehicles (F/MT 1001/Fuel/Service booklets).
  • Defensive Driving.
  • Guarding DA vehicle at all times when out of the Embassy compound.
  • Ensuring proper security procedures, including varying routes and timings and carrying out security searches of the vehicle as required.
  • Appraising DA, DDA & ADA of any issues in relation to the changing security situation and assisting in risk assessment when planning routes and journeys.
  • Providing routine driving cover for all Defence Section related tasks and official visitors.
  • Any other defence related driving task as required.

Essential:

  • Fluent communication skills in English and Arabic (both spoken and written).
  • Valid full clean driving licence for Lebanon.
  • Armoured Vehicle Driver qualified.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

Conditioned working hours are 48 hours gross per week. The Embassy is committed to ensuring that you are able to maintain a suitable work-life balance. Leave entitlement is 20 days (pro rated) plus 14 public holidays.

The embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package of $ 2011 monthly for this role (including transport, family, education allowances, and medical insurance coverage). However, for third country nationals and UKB staff spouse/partners employed by the Embassy, you are not liable to pay Lebanese income tax, your salary will be abated by an amount equivalent to the Lebanese tax that would otherwise be payable (if appropriate). This is called salary abatement.

This role is offered on a Full Time, Permanent contract basis. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 days probationary period.

Candidate must be prepared to travel both internally and externally regularly and be prepared to work outside of normal office hours to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Have the right to live and work in Lebanon.
