The Politics, Press & Public Affairs team seeks a full-time, temporary Marshall Administrative Assistant to focus on helping with the Marshall Scholarship application and interview process for the New England region. The Marshall Scholarship funds American students to pursue master degrees in the UK, fostering strong UK-US relations among future leaders. This full-time position should run eight weeks, from 26 September – 18 November 2016.

 

The Politics, Press & Public Affairs (PPPA) team maintains extensive networks of contacts among decision makers, media and cultural organisations. PPPA manages targeted programmes of public diplomacy, which aim to promote the UK's strengths of integrity, creativity and openness. In turn this should serve to increase trade, inward investment, tourism and the influence of UK foreign policy among current and future leaders.  The PPPA team covers the New England Consular region, which includes Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut (excluding Fairfield County). Responsibilities:

  • Support the Marshall Scholarship application process
    • Collate applications and transcripts for the New England region and prepare dossiers to send to Selection Committee and Reading Committee members
    • Organise paperwork for processing the applications, arranging interviews and reimbursements for applicants and Committee members
    • Help to organise travel for interview candidates travelling from outside Boston
    • Help identify media outlets in the winners’ regions for pitching media coverage
  • Must be detail-oriented and organised with strong writing and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work within a team but also work independently when given tasks.
  • Must be familiar with spreadsheets and Google apps.

The salary for this position is $19.08 per hour. Salary will be confirmed upon offer of employment. Individuals who are Green Card holders, UK/US dual citizens, and non US taxpaying citizens will be paid a net salary based on a simulated US tax status.
