Scotland is rethinking the future of energy and we are looking for a new colleague to start in August 2022 in Copenhagen to drive this future change with us. Scotland is home to the world’s first tidal array, Europe’s largest hydrogen-fuelled bus fleet and is the world leader in floating offshore wind with ScotWind. These are just a few of the areas that contribute to delivering a net zero economy which is a key component in Scotland’s international trade approach. Scottish Development International (Scotland’s international trade agency) is looking for a Senior Trade Specialist to play an integral role in delivery of this strategy. Joining our Nordic team based at the British Embassy, our new colleague will work closely with the Scottish energy supply chain in developing trade relations between Scottish and Danish stakeholders as well as developing further our outreach in Norway and Sweden. Delivering on ambitious low carbon trade targets, the role offers the chance to develop an extensive international network within the North Sea renewables sector as well as to work in a vibrant organisation that values inclusivity and diversity. 

This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact and to actively contribute to the development of sustainable relationships between the Scottish low carbon supply-chain and the Nordic countries.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

As part of the EMEA low carbon trade team, the successful candidate will actively contribute to the long-term success of low carbon Scottish capabilities in Denmark and in the wider Nordic region by:

  • Engaging with key decision makers, influencers, and in-market stakeholders – primarily around Offshore Wind renewables, Hydrogen and CCS

  • Understand the needs of the market and to shape Scotland’s value proposition alongside Scotland-based colleagues and organisations.

  • Deliver against Scottish Government export targets and advance Scotland as centre for low carbon innovation

  • Sharing relevant market intelligence and business opportunities with the Scottish supply chain and/or other relevant sector specific organisations.

  • Propose, design, and deliver energy related in-market activities: trade events, missions, seminars, online workshops

  • Support Scottish energy and low carbon companies on a 1 to 1 basis, providing market entry advice, market studies, introductions leading towards export sales

  • Collaborating with UK Government and Scottish Government colleagues based in Copenhagen and the UK on cross-cutting activities (Ministerial visits, GlobalScots engagements)

  • To offer analysis and reporting of economic developments in the Nordics green transition, identifying key influencing factors and implications for the Scottish economy

  • Fluency at C1 level both in English and Danish according to CEFR Framework *

  • University degree, Business/Economics or applicable subject

  • Minimum 5 years of business development experience

  • A strong understanding of the Danish renewables energy market (Offshore wind, low carbon hydrogen, CCS, O&G Decommissioning) with existing / established energy networks / relationships in Denmark and in the wider Nordic region

  • Good interpersonal, influencing and relationship building skills to be able to develop and maintain a network of key contacts

  • A collaborative team player who can work successfully within a regional and ‘virtual team’ to achieve common objectives

  • Fluency at C1 level in Norwegian and/or Swedish according to CEFR Framework *

  • Knowledge of the Scottish economy and its contribution to UK prosperity

  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), strong presentation skills with experience of public speaking

This is a full-time fixed-term contract for 2 years of 35 hours net per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Denmark in order to apply.
