Main purpose of job:

The Department for International Trade (DIT) secures UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade. In this role you will lead on internal monitoring and reporting across all of our teams based in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as on a range of data projects and, constantly evolving how we measure and demonstrate our impact.

 

This is an exciting role right at the heart of the DIT’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean. We are looking for a numerate candidate, with an interest in economics, the ability to communicate clearly and a track record of working as part of a trade promotion team. The successful candidate will have regular contact with a broad range of colleagues in 20 countries within the region, in the UK and beyond, and provide important support to senior management, who depend on a solid evidence base to inform its decisions and show the impact of the work we do.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

 

·       Performance management

o    You will have oversight of the performance of all DIT LATAC Teams (20 countries and 10 priority sectors) against set metrics.

o    You will lead on setting country and sector targets as part of business planning; balancing ambitious targets with realistic delivery.

o    You will create and update monthly performance impact reports which informs teams and senior management of DIT LATAC performance.

o    You will horizon scan to spot emerging areas of under-performance against targets and work with the COO and DTC to address this under-performance

o    You will lead on all data for Quarterly Operations Forum; providing check and challenge to colleagues on performance to date.

o    Participate in performance discussion with HQ, providing evidence and robust defense on performance to date.

 

·       Special Projects

o    You will lead on a number of discreet projects with colleagues across LATAC. Most notably: Performance Data for EISS and the Enquiry Hub; support to the Director of Market Access with bespoke research; support to the Deputy Trade Commissioner on sector and markets of future growth.  

o    You will provide oversight of membership and access to various data platforms and market intelligence software.

 

·       Organizational data

o    You will work with the COO to continue to develop and improve all variety of data used by DIT in Latin America and the Caribbean, to support enhanced performance and decision making.

o    You will be a regional champion for our management information tool Data Hub, proactively encouraging its use, upskilling colleagues, sharing best practice and responding promptly to queries. This will see you interact with DIT headquarters (London) and other DIT regions around the world.

 

·       Economic analysis

o    You will keep track of key macro-economic and trade figures relating to Latin America and the Caribbean and the UK’s trade with the region.

o    You will work with HQ colleagues to lead and support on quarterly data calls with all Country Directors.

o    You will support colleagues to access, produce and analyze data, promoting regional consistency of economic data in line with headquarters’ policy and assisting in ad hoc requests related to trade and economics.

Essential on arrival:

-       At least one year work experience in a trade and/or investment promotion organisation.

-       Degree in Economics or other numerate subject.

-       Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel

-       Bilingual professional proficiency in English and at least one of: Spanish or Portuguese

-       Experience of analysing trade performance data

-       Understanding of trade promotion, investment, and market access work.

-       Advanced knowledge of international trade data and use of public trade data sets.

-       Committed team player with ability to self-motivate, resilience, and autonomy

-       Excellent research and report writing skills in English

-       Proven experience of working in/with trade and investment across Latin America and the Caribbean

-       Ability to innovate, solve problems, prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks

-       Experience using data/market research platforms.

-       Experience of using CRM platforms.

Desirable

-       Experience of working for the UK Government and understanding of the UK offer and ambitions.

-       Proficiency with using ERP + data visualisation platforms, such as SAP and Tableau, respectively.
