Gardening

Main purpose of job:


Responsible for the general maintenance and development of gardens at Residence and Office, creating a garden environment that is aesthetically pleasing and free of pests.


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Gardening: 80%

Carrying out a varied range of gardening duties, requiring a minimum amount of supervision and use of own initiative:

  • This will include but is not limited to Bed preparation, planting, propagation, border maintenance, mulching, and watering, trimming, mowing, pruning, raking, weeding and clearing debris.
  • Ensuring that all garden equipment and machinery are correctly maintained, serviced, and kept in good working order.
  • Take on special landscaping or planting projects as deemed necessary by the Estate Manager.
  • Collaborate with the gardening team to ensure that the grounds are always properly cared for.
  • Assist with disposal of garden waste.

 

Other duties: 20%

  • Supervise contractors whilst they are carrying out work on High Commission premises.
  • Assist with preparations for official functions (i.e. moving furniture, ensuring that garden and paths are clean and tidy).  
  • Assist in maintenance of swimming pool.

       Essential on arrival:

  • Competent, physically fit and able to do hard, outdoor work
  • 3 years’ gardening experience
  • Ability to work well in a small team
  • Have a track record of creating and maintaining gardens
  • Capable of operating a wide range of garden machinery and equipment safely

        Desirable:

  • Professional gardening qualification
  • Driving License
