Main purpose of job:
The main purpose of the role is to ensure delivery of professional and high-quality front-line services in line with FCDO guidance.
The Pro-Consul, will act as the first point of contact for consular customers, often working independently, reporting to the Vice Consul. They will also be required to work with senior management and Press and Communications teams at post and in the region, particularly during the Vice Consul’s absence.The successful candidate will need to deliver professional and efficient consular services to British Nationals and other qualifying persons in Mexico.
The successful Pro Consul will play a key role in front-line, excellent, professional and efficient consular services delivery to all British nationals and other eligible persons, who travel to, transit or reside in, Mexico. This includes, but is not limited to: some notary services required by the Mexican authorities (namely affirmations for marriage), supporting the most vulnerable British nationals who may have been the victim of crime (including those who may have been raped or sexually assaulted); hospitalised; have been arrested or detained in Mexico; or require additional support due to mental health needs; as well as stakeholder management, outreach initiatives and liaising with other relevant FCDO sections across the Americas and worldwide Consular Network, making an effective contribution to the wider team.

The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

The nature of the job may include tasks that some may find distressing, such as prison, hospital and morgue visits. The successful applicant will need to have a high level of resilience.
