Economic and Prosperity

The British Office Taipei which promotes the UK’s interests and values in Taiwan is looking to recruit a highly motivated and pro-active Senior Economic Officer. The successful applicant will work within the Economic and Prosperity Section to provide analysis of the Taiwanese economy, UK-Taiwan bilateral trade and key economic issues and policies impacting on the UK's economic interests in Taiwan. This is not a purely analytical role and the jobholder will be responsible to advancing discussions on market access and trade policy issues including those related to WTO business. Project management skills will be important as well as the ability to strategise on how to achieve long term goals and not just short term tasks.

This is a challenging job at the heart of the British Office’s work in Taiwan. The jobholder will be responsible for providing macro-economic analysis to internal and external UK stakeholders on a range of issues including, but not exclusive to, investment, monetary policy, trade issues and sectoral economic analysis e.g. financial services or ICT. The jobholder will lead on a range of economic diplomacy policy areas including those related to regular UK Taiwan market access discussions, WTO policy, intellectual property rights, sanitary and phytosanitary measures as well as to promote the UK – the world’s fifth largest economy – as a trade and investment partner for Taiwan.

The jobholder will get a wide ranging insight into UK policy formulation and UK public diplomacy using media platforms including social media to engage with a wider Taiwanese audience to raise awareness about the UK’s economic strengths and about UK innovation.

The British Office has an extensive and high level network of contacts in Taiwan and the jobholder can expect to benefit from the access we enjoy to deliver their objectives and to also play an active and central role in high profile events, including senior visits.

The British Office is a welcoming and fun place to work. Located in bright modern offices with fabulous views over the city, colleagues are able to work flexibly and enjoy a healthy work/life balance.
