The British Embassy in Bangkok is recruiting a Trade & Investment Officer (grade A2/L) to join the Department for International Trade team (DIT).  The DIT team works with UK businesses to ensure their success in Thailand and encourage leading Thai companies to look to the UK as their global partner of choice.

The main purpose of the job is to support UK companies seeking to do business in Thailand in life sciences, technology (ICT) and creative & media sectors. In addition, the job-holder will be expected to work alongside other members of the DIT team to deliver specific projects in support of DIT’s strategy.

Main duties include:

Contribute to the delivery of DIT’s strategy and targets by:

  • Developing an in-depth knowledge of life sciences, technology (ICT) and creative & media sectors so that UK companies can be briefed on the opportunities in Thailand;
  • Proactively meeting Thai companies, trade associations and visiting trade exhibitions in order to develop a network of contacts and identify business opportunities;
  • Researching and drafting high-quality sector briefing for UK companies that are interested in entering the Thai market;
  • Answering general enquiries from UK and Thai companies/organisations in the above sectors;
  • Accurately record activity on DIT’s CRM system;
  • Working alongside the Business Services team at the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand to support UK businesses.

Deliver sector related projects including high profile trade & investment promotional events and other activities under the UK’s “GREAT Britain” campaign (e.g. Technology is GREAT) as directed by line manager, Deputy Director and/or Director for DIT.

Support UK companies on market access issues in these sectors through desk research into specific issues and supporting engagement with the Thai Government and regulators.

Support DIT’s marketing and communication activities with UK and Thai companies. This includes working with the Embassy Communications team to support digital and related activities.

  • Market research and project management experience
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree and/or relevant work experience.
  • A self-starter, able to work independently and on their own initiative to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines;
  • A proven track record of successful customer relationship management with international clients;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • An excellent level of written and spoken English with the ability to write reports and draft response to companies;
  • Fluent Thai language skills;
  • Proficiency in IT, especially MS Office (specifically Excel and Power Point) and Outlook.
  • Experience working in the private sector or international trade would be an advantage.
  • Experience of working on marketing / communications projects.
