Main purpose of job:

To provide efficient IT support to all Embassy staff and His Majesty Ambassador (HMA's) Residence. Ensure all IT procedures at Post follow FCO IT Guidance and have been approved by Corporate Services Manager (CSM) and Secure Technical Services Officer (STSO).

Support Post Security Officer (PSO) in keeping staff, families, information buildings and assets safe at Post, working closely with Post's Overseas Security Manager (OSM), Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) and STSO.  Ensure Embassy and Properties are duly managed based on ESD Guidance.


Roles and responsibilities:

- Technology – 50%

  • Provide first line technical support and administration of the FCO IT network system (Firecrest), which will include simple fault diagnoses, building of network workstations/laptops, installation of equipment on the network, creation/deletion of users, management of backup tapes.
  • Report to, liaise with and assist the FCO Help Desk to resolve 2nd and 3rd line Firecrest issues.
  • Provide networking capabilities of Firecrest and unclassified standalones through patching over the embassy’s CAT 5 cabling infrastructure from switches.
  • Maintain inventories of all IT equipment including spare equipment.
  • Provide 2nd line technical support and administration to unclassified standalone computers in both the Embassy and Residence which will include fault diagnoses, installation, management of software licenses and inventory.
  • Provide non-technical support and administration of the embassy telephone exchange (ECHO).
  • Report to and liaise with the FCO ECHO Help Desk to resolve both technical and non-technical telephony issues.
  • Prepare in advance for upcoming UK-based Staff (UKBS), regarding computer and cell phone needs, transfer F3G account.
  • Manage and administer general office equipment (photocopiers, fax machine, etc). 
  • Monthly test of satellite phones, making sure they are charged and ready to use.
  • In charge of testing IA/PA regularly, making sure bomb/incident buttons and PA microphone work properly.
  • In charge of maintaining the routers at the Residence for the internet connection (firmware upgrades to routers etc).
  • In charge of CCTV and Intruder alarm system at HMA´s Residence, ensure all systems work properly and main point of contact with Provider.
  • Download statement of accounts monthly for each cell phone line, providing the information to the owners of the line, to report personal usage.  Coordinate payments with Finance Officer.

 

- Deputy Post Security Officer – 30%

  • Ensure all actions in the Overseas Security Advisers (OSA) Visit Report have been completed in timely manner.
  • Ensure safety drills are conducted (fire/bomb/incident), and ensure proper schedule is in place, every 6 months.
  • In charge of weekly sound test of emergency alarms (bomb/incident), liaise with Community Liaison Officer (CLO) to test fire alarm.
  • Ensure new Staff at Post read and sign the Post Security Regulations.
  • In charge of Private Security Guards at Post (i.e.: guarding arrangements, ROE, daily duties, chain of command, etc.).
  • To visit new UKBS and families and brief them on security arrangements (e.g.: use of incident alarms, guard procedures, etc.).

 

- Estates Officer – 20%

  • In charge of checks to fire safety equipment in office and all Estates, liaising with qualified personnel (e.g.: local fire brigade).
  • Ensure Legionella tests are done once a year – every January – to all active properties, liaising with the UK Lab and passing the results to CSM, Technical Works Officer (TWO) and Post Housing Committee (PHC).
  • IT experience.
  • Team work.
  • Fluent English and Spanish.
  • Budget Management.
  • Basic experience in Security (regarding Security of surroundings, Security in Country, Security while travelling, etc.)
