The British Embassy has a vacancy for an entry level A1(L) Media and Public Affairs Officer (full-time, permanent contract) with a target start date of 21 August 2017. The successful candidate will join a busy team which plays a key role in promoting all that is great about the UK. The A1(L) Media and Public Affairs Officer responsibilities will include summarising Korean news for colleagues in the Embassy, and elsewhere; delivering marketing campaigns; handling media/general public enquiries and key admin tasks. This is an excellent entry level position for someone looking to gain experience in media and communications and in the wide range of Embassy work in a dynamic and fun team.

 

  • Writing the daily press review covering key Korean news stories. Weekly drafting of media coverage summaries on Brexit and other newsworthy subjects.
  • Press Officer responsible for certain UK Department for International Trade (DIT) sectors. Drafting strategic communications plans, liaising with other teams in the Embassy, the media, business, NGO groups and government contacts to deliver marketing campaigns. Arranging press coverage for embassy news, events, visits and interviews. Draft and distribute press releases in English and Korean to a range of general and specialist media outlets.
  • Manage admin work within the Media & Public Affairs team including, but not limited to, procurement, database and budget management.
  • Work with the rest of the MPA Team to develop the Embassy's online presence, including by updating web content, managing social media and marketing the Embassy website.
  • Ad hoc translation and interpretation services for engagements with the press and with key embassy stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the nature of media in South Korea
  • Fluent in English and Korean – highly skilled in written and spoken communication in both languages
