Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (Policy & Political roles)
Economic and Prosperity

Main purpose of job:

There are two roles:

Economic Intern:  One will support the Economic Diplomacy Team in all aspects of their work, including science and innovation, climate change policy, and economic development issues such as infrastructure, health and education. This role will have a special focus on economic reporting and analysis on Peru, especially in the areas mentioned above.

Climate Programme Intern: The other role will support the delivery of UK International Climate Fund programmes addressing climate change mitigation in areas such as forests and land use, deforestation-free agriculture, sustainable infrastructure, and climate finance. This role will also support the wider team when necessary.

Both roles will give you the opportunity to learn about work across the economic diplomacy portfolio, including policy and programme work focused on cooperation for sustainable economic development. With the UK holding the COP26 in 2022 following the Glasgow conference in November 2021, and announcements made by the UK on increasing ambition on international cooperation on climate, this will continue to be a top priority for the team and you will have opportunities to get involved in this work.

Both interns will be expected to carry out tasks including:

  • Research and outreach
  • Attending and reporting on events on relevant subjects
  • Networking
  • Monitoring and reporting on new developments
  • Organising and delivering online events
  • Working with the Embassy’s communication team to promote the UK’s sustainable economic development work in Peru
  • Administrative support

We expect you to have a positive attitude and to be eager to learn. You will bring a different voice and perspective to our team: that is valuable to us and we expect you to be confident in expressing your ideas. You will have access to the full range of learning and development opportunities available to Embassy staff.

The internship is being offered on a hybrid-working basis

Essential Qualifications:

  • We are looking for undergraduates who are studying subjects relevant to our team’s work and in at least their 8th semester.
  • Good organisational skills are important and experience of administrative work is welcome.
  • For the economic intern role only, we would like candidates to have taken economic policy and macroeconomics courses.
  • English language requirement. Level of language required: Confident. Your English does not need to be perfect, but you will be expected to contribute to meetings and to produce written work in English.
