View Vacancy - Counter Terrorism Programme Assistant A2 (13/18 NR) (INTERNAL ONLY)
Main purpose of job:
The successful candidate will be part of the British Embassy Mogadishu Counter Terrorism (CT) team providing administrative and project support, to include monitoring project expenditure, developing and maintaining mechanisms to monitor spend versus forecast and delivering value for money within an overall programme.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Working to support the Counter Terrorism (CT) team, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing project related resources and information. They will report to the CT Project Officer based in Nairobi.
- Act as an initial point of contact for project-related enquiries.
- Provide administrative support in monitoring and evaluation of projects, and supporting the CT project officers in all administrative aspects of project management, such as managing and coordinating logistics for project related training programmes including other HMG departments who support BEM CT team.
- Manage and monitor project expenditure and maintain financial and progress reports. Review and process all expense claims for projects, including travel claims.
- Organise team meetings, events and visits, including drawing up agendas, minutes, programmes, organising transport and hotel bookings.
- Coordinate extensively with contractors and liaise frequently with staff members across other sections within BHC Nairobi, British Embassy Mogadishu, the region and London.
- Provide administrative support to the CT teams.
Experience of working in a project or programme environment particularly financial and budget management skills.
Strong administrative skills including working Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Previous experience of project management would be an advantage.

- The team is a regional one and most of the team travel regularly throughout East Africa. This role is Nairobi based but the successful applicant may be asked to travel occasionally, including to hostile environments (SAFE+ training and FCO duty of care conditions will apply).
- The holder will need to have/obtain Security Clearance of at least LE Official Sensitive level prior to taking up post.
Leave:
Members of staff are entitled to paid annual leave, which is earned, from the day they commence employment. Entitlements are as follows:
- Grades B3 (L) and above- 30 days
- All Other Grades- 25 days and then 30 days after 5 years’ service
In addition to annual leave, the BHC normally observes no fewer than 9 and no more than 14 Kenyan and British public and religious holidays in a year. These vary from year to year and are at the discretion of the High Commissioner. A list of holidays is published each year.
Working Patterns:
Subject to the Flexible Working Scheme (see below) normal office hours are:
• Monday to Thursday: 0715 - 1600
• Friday: 0745 - 1300.
Flexible working requests will be looked upon favourably where possible.
- This is a 12 months contract with possibility of extension. The position is only open to internal candidates
