The British Embassy is looking for a Recruitment Officer for our North America Regional Human Resources Team located in our Washington, DC office.


The role of the Regional HR Team is to provide key HR Services including recruitment, pay and reward, talent and performance management and general HR support to customers across the region (the US, Canada and the Caribbean). The HR Regional Team forms an integral part of the global HR infrastructure to staff working in the overseas network for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and will lead on all region specific HR issues in collaboration with the London based HR Directorate. This position requires an extremely detail oriented, enthusiastic person, who is capable of communicating with and influencing individuals at all levels of the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the full life-cycle recruitment process for a wide range of positions to include posting, sourcing, reviewing resumes and screening candidates, making offers, and following up:

  • Manage relationships with Posts delivering effective communication that supports the completion of recruitment activities and tasks;

  • Ensure the recruitment are effectively meeting the business needs and completed following appropriate procedures while meeting response time defined in the Service Level Agreements;

  • Partner with Hiring Managers to have a thorough understanding of the vacancy and the actions and customisations required to have a successful recruitment campaign;

  • Work with line managers to post open positions internally and externally, and coordinate candidate process up to and including on-boarding;

  • Perform other related duties as required;



  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience;
  • One to three years relevant work experience in a professional work setting required; prior recruitment experience preferred;
  • Ability to handle confidential employee issues/information and interact with employees in a professional and sensitive manner at all times;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skill;
  • Excellent organizational and multitask skills;
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Proficient in all MS Office applications, especially Word and Excel;
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems will be a plus;
