View Vacancy - CPK - Intellectual Property Officer, B3(L)
This role is part of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) team in China, which consists of four people headed by the UK’s Intellectual Property Attaché to China. The team has the following objectives:
- Support China’s intellectual property (IP) reforms by operating bilateral policy cooperation with Chinese IP agencies, government departments, courts and law enforcement; and
- Improve business IP outcomes by providing general information and tailored support to individual companies in the UK and China.
Intellectual Property Office
The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is an executive agency of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The IPO is responsible for policy across all areas of IP, educating businesses and consumers about IP rights and responsibilities, supporting IP enforcement, and granting UK patents, trade marks and design rights. Led by a Chief Executive based in the UK, we are now a team of over 1,000, with offices in Newport and London and small overseas teams. In China, we have team of four, primarily focusing on influencing Chinese IP policy and supporting UK businesses with IP issues.
Detail:
Based in the British Embassy Beijing, the jobholder will support both the policy and business support objectives of the IP team, and lead on delivery of visit programmes for UK IP officials. The jobholder will work closely with other team members, the Department for International Trade (DIT) and other teams in the Embassy.
- [35%] Delivery of UK-China policy programmes, including reporting, visit delivery and handling day-to-day communications with Chinese government departments and non-government stakeholders.
- [35%] Support UK business engagement, including working with UK companies in-country, delivering business outreach events, and researching and drafting newsletters and other business communications.
- [30%] Visit delivery and team admin support, including delivering UK IPO visit programmes and arranging meetings and other communications with Chinese government and non-government stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently, under pressure and to deadlines
- Strong written and spoken communication skills in English and Chinese
- Experience working with Chinese government agencies and/or UK business stakeholders
- IP, trade policy or market access experience in China
We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross salary (before all deductions) is CNY 17, 670/ month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary of CNY 24, 529/ month for British Nationals and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.
We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata.
Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/ week from Monday to Friday and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs.
