Main purpose of job:
Providing an efficient, customer focused, safe and compliant Corporate Services platform for the British High Commission is essential for the team to meet UK bilateral objectives in Mauritius. You will work with the Corporate Services team to effectively manage the High Commission’s Corporate responsibilities leading on health and safety, supporting estates and security responsibilities and provide administrative support for Corporate Services and the wider team as required. You will be required to build effective relationships with stakeholders, ensuring the UK High Commission obtains high-quality and value for money services across the Corporate Services portfolio.
This role aligns with the FCDO Executive Officer (EO) grade, demonstrating leadership in operational delivery, stakeholder engagement, and corporate governance. The jobholder will be expected to take ownership of key corporate functions, drive continuous improvement, and support strategic objectives across the Post.
Roles and responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership in Health and Safety – 35%
Champion and lead the Post’s Health & Safety and Fire Safety compliance agenda, working in close collaboration with the Estates and Security Manager. Take full ownership of the Health & Safety coordination, ensuring proactive implementation of audit recommendations and continuous improvement. Maintain and update Evotix, ensuring timely reporting and resolution of actions. Lead accident documentation and reporting via the FCDO portal, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Conduct and oversee safety inspections, fire drills, risk assessments, and lone working procedures. Drive the development and execution of work plans that prioritize health and safety across the Post. Provide expert compliance support across Delivery Excellence and Corporate Services. Act as Deputy Fire Safety Manager, ensuring readiness and resilience.
Estates and Security Leadership – 45%
Lead strategic initiatives to enhance estates and security operations, identifying cost-effective and efficient solutions. Own the Planon tool management for leased properties, ensuring full audit compliance and operational excellence. Cultivate and manage relationships with external stakeholders, negotiating outcomes that align with Post objectives. Oversee maintenance requests, liaising with landlords and UKBS officers to ensure timely resolution. Keep diplomatic staff informed and engaged on property maintenance matters. Spearhead audit preparations and lead the implementation of recommendations. Draft and enforce internal policies, reports, and surveys to support strategic decision-making. Act as Deputy Estates and Security Manager, driving continuous improvement. Manage and curate Teams content related to estates and security, ensuring accessibility and relevance.
IT Systems Oversight – 5%
Provide strategic oversight as Deputy ITSO, managing FCDO and standalone IT systems. Coordinate equipment maintenance and fault resolution, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Corporate Leadership and Governance – 10%
Lead corporate governance initiatives, ensuring alignment with Post-wide strategic objectives. Support the Head of Corporate Services in driving policy development, compliance, and operational efficiency. Represent Corporate Services in cross-functional leadership forums and contribute to strategic planning.
Operational Support and Team Engagement – 10%
Provide high-level support for large-scale events, logistics, and driving duties. Foster a collaborative team ethos and actively contribute to crisis response activities. Maintain and update the crisis tree and assist the consular team in emergency preparedness. Manage diplomatic bag processes with precision and reliability. Lead procurement of goods and services, ensuring value for money and compliance.
Support to MoD Accredited Colleagues – 5% Provide dedicated support to newly accredited MoD colleagues during their regular visits, including transport coordination, accommodation arrangements, and logistical planning. Act as the primary liaison to ensure seamless integration and operational support for visiting MoD personnel.
Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs. The jobholder may be assigned ad hoc tasks, including emergency planning and crisis response, to support the wider objectives of the Post.
