The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Senior Trade Adviser, Grade – B3 (L).

 

Purpose of the job:

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government’s international business development agency. DIT Jordan promotes trade development between the UK and Jordan and assists Jordanian companies looking to invest into the UK www.gov.uk/DIT for further information.

The successful candidate will work as part of the DIT Jordan team of the British Embassy in Amman with interactions with colleagues in the region and the whole network. The Senior Trade Adviser will work with UK exporters identify export opportunities and achieve business across a range of sectors. The Adviser will deputise the Head of DIT Jordan whenever needed and lead on the team’s communications campaigns.

 

Main Responsibilities:

• Proactively develop, manage and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the Jordanian and British business community, relevant government bodies and investors in order to identify and increase export and investment opportunities for UK companies.

• Monitor economic trends and trade statistics with an overall responsibility for sectors (to be identified). As a sector lead, you will be responsible for obtaining market intelligence, identifying commercial opportunities for UK companies, monitoring market trends and projects, assessing demand for UK products and services and key areas of growth, actively seeking to engage with stakeholders, providing general or bespoke market analysis to guide UK companies in assessing the business environment. This role includes updating Her Majesty’s Ambassador, Head of DIT Jordan and the Doing Business in Jordan Guide on www.gov.uk

• Facilitate, manage and represent DIT Jordan and the Embassy in relevant commercial events to highlight UK Excellence in lead sectors and target contacts through the GREAT campaign, exhibitions, launches, business receptions and seminars and promote DIT services.

• Manage visit programmes and arrange meetings with key stakeholders to maximize exposure for UK companies and liaise with colleagues on media and press. Provide relevant briefings, information and introductions that will help UK companies secure business in the market.

• Overseas Market Information Service (OMIS): Negotiate and deliver tailored, chargeable services for relevant UK-based companies seeking access to the Jordanian market.

• Export opportunities: Monitor the progress of key projects in Jordan to identify opportunities for UK companies and post any export opportunities on the DIT website.

• Export wins: Build an effective network of relationships with senior leaders in key companies and organisations in Jordan and the UK, including intermediaries, trade associations, and government departments, to secure and record actual high-value business contracts for UK companies.

• Refresh and lead on DIT Jordan’s social media accounts. Produce marketing material for DIT events and liaise with the Embassy’s Communications Team and Regional Marketing Hub on GREAT campaign priorities and branding regulations.

• Contribute to wider Embassy objectives through participation in Embassy communications, committees and corporate activities.

Essential:
• Fluent communication skills in English language (oral and written).
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience and/or business development.
• Degree level education preferably in relevant fields.
• Strong client management experience.
• Solid understanding of the drivers and challenges of the local commercial world and major and opportunity sectors and trends.
• Ability to proactively develop and maintain a network of contacts to identify export opportunities and to facilitate business connections and partnerships accordingly.
• Excellent interpersonal, communications and influencing skills with attention to detail.
• Proactive, team player with strong time management and IT skills (standard Microsoft applications).
• Ability to work after working hours whenever needed.

Desirable:
• Familiarity with or knowledge of the UK market would be an advantage.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.

The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 28 days (pro rated) plus 14 public holidays.

The successful candidate will attend an induction week in the UK after a satisfactory 3-month probation period. On-the job training and job shadowing opportunities also exist.
