The British Embassy in Vienna is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a member of staff to work at the British Ambassador's residence in Vienna.

The successful candidate will act as part of a team ensuring the general smooth running of the residence for daily tasks as well as events and hosting guests. The main tasks include welcoming guests, serving and washing up at residence events, household cleaning as well as washing, ironing and the following:

 

Residence Events and catering responsibilities

  • Prepare, service and clear up meals prepared for Her Majesty’s Ambassador and other family or guests at the residence;
  • Ensure residence is in perfect order for receiving guests;
  • Invite guests to sign visitor’s book if Residence Manager is not present;
  • Assist with catering and preparation of entrees;
  • Serve guests at table or cocktails / garden parties, etc.

Household cleaning, washing and ironing

  • Wash, dry and iron clothing, linen and towels as required including for guests if asked including minor sewing repairs / alterations;
  • Vacuum and dusting;
  • Polishing silver and furniture as instructed;
  • General cleaning and emptying of small rubbish bins;
  • Water and monitor flowers/plants in residence.

Other duties

  • Report any repairs / maintenance required (including dead bulbs);
  • Make list of cleaning products and purchase stocks when asked;
  • Clean up after workmen when required;
  • Answer the telephone and other enquiries;
  • Cover for other residence staff as required;
  • Any other duties decided by Residence Manager, Her Majesty’s Ambassador or spouse / partner.
  • Strong fluency in verbal English related to role;
  • Basic command of German;
  • Flexibility and a motivation to get things done including excellent customer focus;
  • Adaptability and a positive mindset towards working as part of a broader team.
  • Previous experience as residence staff is desirable but not required.

This is a local staff position in the British Embassy Vienna; it is not a diplomatic designated position. The position is subject to the terms and conditions of British Embassy employees.

This is a permanent full-time position of 5 days (40 hours net) per week. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. This is a live in position. Meals and uniforms are provided and included in the remuneration package below.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys 14 Austrian / UK public holidays per year and we are committed to ensuring a work / life balance.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they are legally able to work in Austria. The Embassy is not able to assist with any visa or sponsorship arrangements.

Monthly salary will be € 1,628 gross, payable 15 times a year for those liable for Austrian tax.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Austrian employment law.
