Main purpose of job:

Assistant to the CSSF Portfolio managers running a £30m portfolio that delivers effective programme activity to support the UK Government’s security and stability objectives in Somalia.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

  • Helping Somalia CSSF to comply with best practice in programme and project management from within HM Government, delivered through a team of project managers and technical leads;
  • Tracking of programme impact and risk mitigation, helping the team to record results; and to report on the delivery and political risks posed to the portfolio.
  • Focal point for Monitoring and Evaluation work across the Somalia CSSF portfolio.
  • Working with the Somalia CSSF team to deliver prompt and accurate programme reporting to London and senior managers.
  • Information Manager – oversight of the accurate recording of portfolio records for the public record.

 

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

Expenditure: £30m annual CSSF budget, overseen by the Portfolio Manager

  • BA in International Relations, Program Management, Finance, Business Administration or any other relevant degree
  • Experience in programme management

  • Confidence and ability to work with colleagues across the team, including with senior colleagues in Mogadishu and London

    • Experience of financial management and budgeting, procurement and risk management.
    • Experience of working on security, governance and conflict issues.

    Leave:

    Members of staff are entitled to paid annual leave, which is earned, from the day they commence employment. Entitlements are as follows:

    • Grade B3 - 30 days

    In addition to annual leave, the BHC normally observes no fewer than 9 and no more than 14 Kenyan and British public and religious holidays in a year. These vary from year to year and are at the discretion of the High Commissioner. A list of holidays is published each year.

    Working Patterns:

    Subject to the Flexible Working Scheme (see below) normal office hours are:
    • Monday to Thursday: 0730 - 1600
    • Friday: 0730 - 1300.

    Flexible working requests will be looked upon favourably where possible.
