Main purpose of job:

To support the Department for International Trade in Kampala in delivering chargeable support to UK companies interested in doing business in Uganda and support day to day administration of the DIT Kampala office.



Roles and responsibilities:

  • General office administration.
  • Develop a structure and system to manage contacts, enquiries and projects
  • Coordinate and ensure DIT Kampala doing business guides, Overseas Business Risk and sector reports are up-to-date.
  • Act as a focal point of contact for British Businesses by handling initial queries, providing advice on the business environment and company registration procedures.
  • Undertake research and marketing activity, identify potential UK investors that would be interested in setting up or expanding their operations in Uganda.
  • Provide assistance to the Head of DIT in Kampala.
  • Write and compile reports on specific topics relating to market developments, best routes to market, and potential Ugandan business partners for UK companies looking to enter the Ugandan market.
  • Compile visit programs and organise meetings for UK companies.
  • Attend meetings where appropriate and assist in management of client relationships.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of international trade missions, industry focused seminars and other events to promote the UK.
  • Regularly update and manage the DIT database for key contacts in the industry.
  • Provide operational and administrative support by maintaining DIT Customer Data Management System (CDMS).
  • Identify Export Opportunities targeted to UK companies and upload them on the DIT Portal and follow them up.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in International Business, Commerce, Marketing or any other business related field.
  • Minimum of two years working experience in a similar/related role.
  • Good understanding of international / regional / Ugandan trade and investment issues
  • Experience in business support to private sector organisations

On recruitment, the candidate will undergo a DIT induction course required for access to DIT systems.


Working patterns:

Generally the candidate will work normal working hours unless specifically agreed with the Line Manager
