The British Embassy, Israel has vacancy for a Communications Officer, Grade – A2 (L).

Overview of the role:

An exciting opportunity for a creative, hard-working individual to join the British Embassy’s Communications team, playing a key role in delivering the Embassy’s communications strategy and wider objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Communications, the successful candidate will work with teams across the Embassy and be responsible for helping to plan and deliver an ambitious set of public diplomacy campaigns and events for the Embassy, with a particular focus on UK soft power, culture and creativity. They will also help to secure high-profile coverage and public exposure of Embassy activities and be required to liaise with the Israeli and international media on a wide range of issues relating to UK Government policy.

They will also maintain primary responsibility for the Embassy’s digital presence, and be responsible for generating a variety of creative content.

Main Responsibilities:

  • With support from the wider team, work to devise and deliver an ambitious set of public diplomacy events and creative campaigns for the Embassy, while working at pace and with limited resources.
  • Help to develop the Embassy’s soft-power communications strategy.
  • Lead the planning of events of all scales, mainly focusing on soft-power opportunities.
  • Play an active role in managing the Embassy’s digital presence, including the website and social media channels.
  • Generate digital assets and content including basic designing, shooting and editing; showcasing and boosting the Embassy’s brand awareness.
  • Create and maintain an active presence on various social-media platforms (lead).
  • Help to secure high-profile coverage and public exposure of Embassy activities, official visits and events.

Additional tasks as required, including:

  • Monitor the Israeli media and write regular press roundups; swift and accurate translation from Hebrew to English and English to Hebrew.
  • Arrange interviews and identify relevant speaking opportunities for Embassy and other British officials.
  • Draft and issue press releases and statements on UK policies and Embassy activities.
  • Draft Op-Eds, messages and speeches for the Ambassador.

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Hebrew (reading, writing and speaking).
  • At least two years of relevant communications experience.
  • Experience managing social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) professionally.
  • Experience of press relations and of drafting press products, including press releases/statements and other public messaging.
  • Excellent ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to work as part of a small, agile, ambitious team, as well as having the drive and self-sufficiency to work independently.
  • Creativity, flexibility and excellent communications skills.
  • Proven organisational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent IT skills, including the ability to quickly learn new programmes.

Desirable:

  • Proven experience in devising and delivering medium-to-large scale events.
  • Experience in writing speeches and Op-Eds.
  • Proficiency in graphic design platforms and programmes.
  • Proficiency in filming and editing digital content.
  • Experience with website management/design or marketing.
  • An overview of UK-Israel relations and awareness of the role of the British Embassy in delivering UK objectives.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 11,139 per month plus transport allowance and social benefits: Pension employer contribution 7.5% and Keren Hishtalmut employer contribution 7.5%.

This position is offered on a Full Time, Permanent contract and the successful candidate will be on a four-month probationary period. 

Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30 for a total of 37.5 weekly.

Flexibility will be required, including occasional evening events, some travel locally and occasional travel to the UK.

  • Candidates must be able to work legally in Israel.
