The British Embassy in Doha is part of a worldwide network that represents political, economic, security and consular interests overseas. We are looking for a Social Media and Communications Senior Officer, job grade Executive Officer (EO).
This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of the British Embassy Doha. The Social Media and Communications Senior Officer plays a critical role in the functioning of the Embassy, managing our external communications via press, TV, radio and online channels, working closely with all Embassy teams and His Majesty’s Ambassador (HMA).
It is a demanding role that requires significant media experience, technical skills, and the ability to develop a wide network of Ministry and journalist contacts. Strong skills in social media and proficiency in English and Arabic are essential, as well as a developed understanding of how strategic communications can help deliver the Embassy’s objectives.
This role will suit an individual who is a self-starter, team player and is adaptable to changing requirements. The media landscape is constantly evolving, so the successful candidate will be expected to adapt and flex to changing priorities during their time with the Embassy.
We are looking for a dynamic individual who pays attention to detail, performs well under pressure and brings an existing network.
Duties and responsibilities:
Manage External relationships with Qatar’s vibrant media network
- Main point of contact for the Embassy with Qatari Ministry communication teams, local and local media
Responsible for Embassy’s digital diplomacy and social media channels
- Develop and deliver a follower growth and audience strategy and implementation plan.
- Collaborate closely with Embassy colleagues to publish timely and innovative content, in support of the wider communications strategy.
- Maintain and update information on Embassy website/ social media platforms.
Produce media reports and monitor the media
- Produce daily press analysis and report regularly on local and regional events and developments in the media landscape in Qatar.
- Ensure the Embassy’s communications strategy reflects the local media environment.
Design and develop products
- Design and develop communications products, including newsletters, bulletins, videos, brochures, infographics etc.
Strategic Communications Planning
- Support the delivery of impactful public diplomacy campaigns to achieve UK Government objectives in Qatar.
- Advise on priority campaigns to ensure the Embassy is using its public platform as efficiently as possible.
Visits
- Lead on developing and implementing communications plans for inward and outward visits and major events.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

- Relevant experience in communications for a local or international organisation.
- Full proficiency in English and Arabic. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written communication.
- A confident and clear communicator with excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in a range of social media channels.
- Ability to film and edit videos for social media use and video editing software experience.
- Proven record of organisational skills, including the ability to create engaging content, to prioritise tasks and to work to deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, to prioritise and organise own workload and meet deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail and without compromising the quality of work, and to take the initiative as well as being able to work well with others.
- Excellent ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, including prioritising effectively to juggle competing demands.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
In addition, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

Eligibility:
Applicants must already reside in Qatar and hold the right to live and work there, including those either under spouse sponsorship or be able to transfer an existing sponsorship to the British Embassy. If sponsorship transfer is required, all sponsorship incurred fees shall be borne by the successful applicant. The Embassy cannot guarantee how much cost or time it may take for the process to complete.
Working Hours and Remuneration:
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including non-negotiable salary of QR 17,141 per calendar month and transportation allowance of QR 800 per calendar month, paid in arrears. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term basis for two (2) years, subject to six (6) months’ probationary period.
Conditioned working hours is 38 hours per week. Embassy working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Sundays to Wednesdays and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Due to the nature of the work, some out of hours’ work, including evenings and weekends, may be required from time to time to support events, conferences, and other business engagement.
The Embassy supports flexible working including working from home for some part of the working week and is committed to helping its staff maintain a healthy work life balance.
The Embassy has an active Continuous Professional Development Committee, and the whole of Post is committed to providing the time and resources for staff to develop professionally. The 70/20/10 learning, and development model is applied flexibility, with both internal and formal opportunities readily available.
The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy and will be required to have or obtain the appropriate security clearance before employment commences and maintain this clearance throughout the period of employment.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidate’s profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
