Main purpose of job:


-  To lead on all aspects of delivering the prestigious Chevening Scholarship Programme in Brazil – including: promoting Chevening in Brazil and delivering a nationwide selection process to attract exceptional students to study in the UK for a year; developing engagement with the network of Chevening alumni in Brazil; developing local partnerships to support Chevening in Brazil; working closely with colleagues in the British Embassy and Consulates to promote the UK-Brazil relationship.


-  To lead on the UK government’s International Leaders Programme in Brazil.


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:


To lead on all aspects of delivering the prestigious Chevening Scholarship Programme in Brazil:

     


Recruitment and selection: design and implement national marketing and outreach strategies to attract applicants, deliver an annual interview process in cities across Brazil involving Embassy and Consulate staff, liaise with Chevening Secretariat in London to sift and select candidates, organise departure and reception events for Brazilian scholars.


Chevening partnerships: identify sponsors in Brazil to deliver co-funded scholarships, negotiate and deliver partnership contracts.


Chevening alumni network: manage contacts and communications with over 1000 former scholars, facilitate events and projects to consolidate and build the network, and identify opportunities for engagement with the Embassy network.


Promote UK in Brazil: maintain strategic awareness of UK priorities in Brazil, work with teams and senior leadership across the Embassy and Consulates to identify how they can engage with Chevening, and identify opportunities to promote Chevening through network events;

• Lead on the coordination of the International Leaders Programme & Honours


Best practice: contribute to development of regional and global Chevening networks, learn from other countries and identify areas for collaboration.

 

Essential on arrival:

• University degree or equivalent, plus significant work experience in related area (e.g. international, education, communication);

• Inclusive leadership skills: to represent HMG and Chevening in Brazil, to lead the Chevening team in the Brazil Network, and to engage on corporate leadership initiatives.

• Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work well with others and develop effective networks;

• Excellent communication skills: including social media and creative techniques to reach different audiences; an ability to deliver presentations to large audiences; confident in interacting with senior alumni and network stakeholders

• Delivery focused: a proactive self-starter with the ability to manage financial and human resources to ensure timely and high quality service; • IT confidence: including database management

• Good strategic awareness: able to understand priorities of the Embassy and actively contribute to them;


                Language requirements:

                 

                Language: Fluency in English; confident in Portuguese.

                 

                Level of language required: Fluency in English is essential, as many of your key stakeholders will be in the UK (Chevening Secretariat etc). Much of your work in Brazil will be in English too. You’ll need to be able to communicate confidently in Portuguese too (e.g. for some promotional activity, and engagement with Brazilian authorities).
