Main purpose of job

To lead on the High Commission’s digital and communications work, promoting our messaging and activity both on our digital platforms and with Jamaican and Diaspora media outlets.   The role will involve working across the High Commission, particularly with our Department for International Development and our teams working on Serious Organised Crime issues. The jobholder will be responsible for our Twitter, Facebook and other online presence and be able to produce short videos, take high impact photographs of our activity for use online and create infographics that help engage with our audiences and tell our story.

Roles and responsibilities

This is a fantastic and varied job working in one of the key diplomatic missions in Kingston.

The Digital and Communications Officer will work with teams across the High Commission to promote their messages and engage with their audiences, both in Jamaica and with the Diaspora in the UK.   This will have a particular focus on the High Commission’s work with Jamaican partners to tackle serious organised crime, promote trade and investment links between the UK and Jamaica, support British nationals and promote British values and understanding of the United Kingdom.

A key part of this will be supporting the High Commissioner in his public and media engagements, both in Kingston and around Jamaica, working with media and other contacts.

The jobholder will also lead on the commuciations aspects of other high profile activity, including high level visits to and from Jamaica, the High Commissioner’s events in Kingston and travel around the island, High Commission events including our flagship annual UK-Jamaica Fair; promotion of our Chevening Scholarships programme and coverage of our Global Britain and other programme fund activity, including the Marine Environment, Cyber Security and LGBT+ issues.

The jobholder will run the High Commission’s Facebook, Twitter and other digital accounts, amplifying key communications messages from London as well as generating original content locally, including eye-catching videos, photographs and infographics that can convey our messages in an engaging way.
