Main purpose of job:

 

Delivering high quality catering for all official events/functions held at the High Commissioner’s official residence as well as for the High Commissioner and family under the guidance of the Residence Manager.




Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:


  • Deliver and supervise all food service requirements at the High Commissioner’s Residence and occasionally at the British High Commission offsite for functions including but not limited to receptions, dinners, lunches, breakfasts and conferences ranging in size.
  • Ability to produce quality food service in both the areas of savoury and pastry
  • Menu planning including researching new ideas/trends, testing and preparing new menus based on specific themes or requests, accommodating specific dietary needs as required. Culinary range should be both local and international.
  • Oversee casual kitchen staff during events by designating roles and managing timelines
  • Food purchasing with a focus on quality/cost control and building/maintaining relationships with area vendors
  • Order and purchase other supplies as needed for household inventory
  • Responsible for all health, hygiene and sanitation practices in the Residence kitchen, including educating guests and staff as and when required, to ensure all health & safety requirements are met
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen, ensuring the kitchen is clearned before and after every event and all waste disposed of in the appropriate manner in line with FCO requirements.

 

 

Essential on arrival:


  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver value for money
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility, in particular for problem-solving and reacting quickly to changing plans

 


Desirable:


  • Knowledge/certification of jamaica’s health & safety requirements
  • Self motivation and initiative
  • Flexibility – there will be some out of hours work, including attendance at evening receptions or events and very occasional weekend work.
