The British Embassy in Spain is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit an Intern to integrate the Economic and Public Policy team. 

Main purpose of job:

This is an exciting opportunity to support the British government’s objectives in Spain, working with policy experts and senior diplomats in a fast paced environment. The Economic Intern will form part of the Embassy’s Economic and Public Policy Team, which sits within the Embassy’s Political & Economic Section.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth and insightful quantitative and qualitative analysis of (a) the Spanish economy, regions and sectors and (b) the commercial relationship between Spanish regions and the UK. Research will provide the team with a stronger analytical base for its engagement with government and business, feed into briefing for the Ambassador/Deputy Head of Mission’s meetings and visits, and help to inform UK policy.

 

  • Proficient user in both written and spoken English and Spanish (C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*);
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, including data organisation and analysis;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Educational background in economics, statistics or related field;
  • Dynamic and hardworking, with ability to work on own initiative.

Experience presenting complex data in engaging ways;

Proficiency with Excel, PowerBI;

Keen interest in current affairs.

This is a part-time and temporary internship contract of 6 months (target times for this internship are from mid January to mid June)

). Normal working hours are 25 per week.

Only applications of students enrolled in Universities in Spain for the entire duration of the internship will be accepted.

The successful candidate is subject to a confirmation of a background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.

The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Spain and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
