Department for International Trade (DIT)

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government department responsible for promoting British trade across the world and ensuring the UK takes advantage of the huge opportunities open to us.

 

This is an exciting opportunity at the forefront of the British Government’s growth agenda, to achieve a step change of bilateral trade and Inward Investment for the Tech sector in the UK. You will be responsible in helping UK enterprises win more high value business deals and export to China, and to secure new and increased quality investment from China into the UK. To achieve this, you will build strong relationships with key multipliers and industry bodies and business clients. You will identify, design and manage specific campaigns, projects and visits to win support for DIT’s export and investment agenda. You will provide support on market access issues as well as promoting UK Tech excellence in the China market.

 

Delivering export wins and foreign direct investment targets

  • Identify and analyse trends/developments in China and UK markets, key companies in targeted sub-sectors, and in the external factors affecting the sector's operating environment. Utilise this information to deliver on the team’s export wins and FDI targets.
  • Identify and coordinate inputs to help with the evolution of the sector strategy. Organise input of information to help raise awareness of China opportunities through the DIT website, International Trade Advisors, specialists, Investment Organisations, Local Enterprise Partnerships, etc. Sign-posting to China British Business Council (CBBC) and other services where appropriate.

 

Leading on high impact campaigns, events and visits

  • Advise on the design, and manage delivery and follow up of, high-level campaigns, events and visits that contribute to sector targets. Plan and manage practical and logistical aspects of important events including Government visitor’s programmes and inward/outward missions (by Chinese companies to the UK and vice versa); working with CBBC and other networks where appropriate.

 

Effective client management and pipeline building

  • Take a systematic approach in identifying and building relationship with new clients at different levels and look for opportunities to deploy senior officials to unlock/enhance relationships. Pro-actively identify trade & investment opportunities and develop account management plans accordingly.

 

Knowledge and skills development

  • Commit to continual learning, making full use of on the job opportunities to deepen your sector knowledge and understanding of the UK capability and UK/China business environment, as well as formal training for skills and personal competences most relevant to your job. This includes knowledge-sharing with colleagues across DIT and the wider Embassy/Consulate.
  • Excellent business development skills
  • ICT sector experience and knowledge
  • Well organized, motivated and diligent 
  • Analytical skills and ability to customise UK capabilities to the targeted Chinese investors and opportunities in a tangible way
  • Networks within relevant technology sector/sub-sectors either in China or in the UK and able to identify companies with an appetite to grow

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross starting salary (before all deductions) is RMB 17,670/month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary of RMB 24,529/ month for British Nationals and spouses/partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria. 

 

We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata. Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/week from Monday to Friday and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs.
