Main purpose of job:

The chosen candidates will support the assigned Embassy section (Corporate Services, Communications & Political Affairs, International Trade) in achieving its desired objectives.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

Interns assigned to the Embassy will rotate among the different sections as necessary, and will be expected to fulfil the following objectives, as relevant: 

  • To assist the Consular Section with research regarding issues affecting British Nationals visiting Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and help in the elaboration of a prevention strategy to sensitise travellers to these issues.
  • To provide assistance to the Corporate Services section in tasks ranging from property management and procurement procedures to learning and development.
  • To support the Communications and Political Affairs section in a range of activities from political research to social media work pursuing the promotion of the UK Government’s Chevening scholarship programme.
  • To support the International Trade team in identifying potential business opportunities for UK companies in market and improving market access conditions.
  • Currently pursuing a university degree in any of the following areas including, but not limited to: International Relations, International Trade, Economics, Business Management and Communications.
  • Must have excellent computer skills, particularly MS Outlook and MS Office packages.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communications skills.

This is an internship and is completely designed around the individuals desire to learn and develop. It will offer a window into how a diplomatic mission operates and the type of work we become involved in.

The respective line managers will set the working pattern for each intern. The maximum is 24 hours per week paid employment for a period of 3 months with the possibility of an additional 3 months where appropriate.
