View Vacancy - Brazilian Politics Analyst
Main purpose of job:
We are looking for a dynamic and analytical candidate who is passionate about political analysis and building relationships internally and externally. The candidate will be required to assist in the delivery of analytical pieces and think strategically about the changing political landscape in Brazil and how that affects the work of the UK Mission in Brazil and the bilateral relationship.
This is a very exciting role within the Political Team that will work closely with the Senior Political Adviser and other leadership across the UK Mission in Brazil supporting and informing high-level decision-making.
The chosen candidate will be responsible for selecting news, following polls and analysing data and trends to produce timely reports about Federal-level politics (including executive and legislative branches), electoral scenarios, political developments, and policy or legislation pieces. In addition, the candidate will also be expected to support the Senior Political Adviser in following political developments at regional level in key areas of the Mission of the UK in Brazil’s interest.
We expect the successful candidate to be able to collaborate with other teams across the mission in reporting, analysis, presentations and projects, including our teams in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Recife. It is expected that the successful candidate will support the Senior Political Adviser and the Political Team to produce brief written reports and presentations (using tools such as PowerPoint and/or Canva) on both a regular and ad hoc basis as well.
This is a cross-cutting role within the Political Team, at the heart of the UK Mission in Brazil. The jobholder will operate in a very dynamic environment, shifting between assisting in the management of external and internal stakeholders, working on analysis and following political developments that will inform and support decision-making. Over the next year, we also expect the successful candidate to focus on our work related to the 2022 National Elections. The successful candidate is expected to feel comfortable in working in a dynamic area, having the capacity to prioritise and deliver at pace.
The candidate might be asked to provide some administrative support to visits and missions to and from the UK as well as other sorts of administrative support on an ad hoc basis.
Knowledge of Brazilian politics, parties and political institutions is highly desirable. Previous experience providing support with political stakeholders’ engagement is a plus. Previous experience with elections, campaigns and political analysis will also be considered relevant.

Roles and responsibilities
Political analysis and reporting
- Produce and review analytical reports on Brazilian politics’ latest developments. Support the Senior Political Advisor in structuring reports, analysis, updates and briefs and to present these materials to different departments across the UK Network in Brazil as well as across Her Majesty’s Government Departments in London.
- Monitor trends and data about political developments, and provide valuable insights that will support and inform decision-making.
Engagement and stakeholders management
External engagement/stakeholders
- Support the Senior Political Adviser in mapping and engaging with stakeholders from across political branches (Executive and Legislative), think tanks and other relevant organisations.
- Support members of the senior staff and senior political adviser in stakeholders’ engagement, including through creating briefings, profiles, readouts of meetings, and other relevant material.
- Attend technical and high-level meetings and support in the production of timely and relevant reports for senior audiences in Brazil and London.
- It is also expected that the candidate will develop and maintain its own network of network of stakeholders that can inform his/hers/theirs work best, assisted by the Senior Political Adviser.
Internal engagement/stakeholders
- The candidate will be expected to work flexibly across the network’s priorities and engaging with several different teams within the Embassy in Brasilia and across other posts.
Administrative support:
The successful candidate will have some level of administrative tasks to develop which can include reimbursements for team’s or individual’s expenses, activities or specific projects. He/she/they will also be required to provide some administrative support during missions or visits from the UK – eventually scheduling meetings, provide logistical support with events and trips – on an ad hoc basis.
Language requirements:
Language: Portuguese and English.
Level of language required: Portuguese (Fluent) / English (Advanced)
Essential on arrival:
- Relevant university degree on Political Science, Social Sciences, Law, International Relations, Public Administration or any other relevant area;
- Passion for politics, political analysis and engaging with contacts;
- Familiarity working with Brazilian political institutions (Executive & Legislative) and understanding of who the key political stakeholders in Brazil are;
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communications and writing skills in both English and Portuguese;
- Some experience with crafting visual presentations – which could include Power Point Presentations or other similar tools such as Canva or Keynote. Excel is a plus.
- Experience with political analysis, and monitoring movements across Executive and Legislative branches
- Experience with political reporting and stakeholders management
- Experience in identifying political trends
(Previous experience in political campaigns and knowledge of Brazilian electoral law is a plus)
