The UK Representation to the European Union (UKRep) in Brussels is part of a world-wide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an intern for a period of 3 months.

The successful candidate will join the brand new Public Diplomacy team at the forefront of our transition to becoming a third country Mission. This internship will provide an invaluable insight into how we aim to shape the debate in Brussels, which we achieve by leading UKRep’s overall campaign, engagement and public diplomacy strategy in close cooperation with London; event planning; managing cross-cutting senior Ministerial and officials visits and engagement strategy with third countries, industry, NGOs, think tanks and other key opinion former within the Brussels bubble. This is an exciting time to be in Brussels and we all work at the coal face of communicating the UK Government’s key messages to an important range of decision makers and influences.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Business Support: Working with the Team Coordinator to provide secretarial support; diary management (arranging external and internal meetings); preparation of papers for meetings; arranging set up for external meetings; preparing briefing packs.

Engagement strategy support: Working with desk officers to support the development of campaigns, events and engagement strategies, including assisting with live stakeholder maps, identifying target audiences and the means to reach them.

  • Fluent command of English (oral and written);
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Good communications and personal skills;
  • Confident in using Microsoft Office Programs

This is a full-time professional internship with the duration of 3 months, 36.25 hours net for 5 working days a week.

The indemnity for this position is €781.30 gross per month. The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium follow the Belgian minimum pay scales for paid internships as set out under local labour law.

The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium salaries are not subject to annual indexation. Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
