The British Embassy in Czech Republic is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Foreign and Security Policy Officer.

The main purpose of the job is to lead embassy work on foreign and security policy issues, delivering UK priorities in the Czech Republic and providing insightful, timely reporting back to London on key developments in the country.  To support the Head of the Policy Team in helping to deliver a positive Brexit deal which works for the people of both the Czech Republic and the UK.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To report on key developments in the Czech Republic’s foreign policy, ensuring senior leadership in the Embassy are supported in their engagement on these issues.  To build up and use a network of external stakeholders to help deliver key UK foreign policy priorities, the job holder will use their own engagement, as well as bilateral visits and international initiatives to help deliver UK objectives;
  • To work with government and civil society to strengthen the partnership between the UK and Czech Republic to improve resilience to hybrid threats, including disinformation and cyber.  This will also include co-ordinating and managing projects with external implementers;
  • To support the Head of the Policy Team in working with the Czech Republic to deliver a Brexit deal which works for both the UK and the Czech Republic, and to support the delivery of the agreement once the UK leaves in March 2019.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to speak and write in Czech and English effectively;
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively;
  • Ability to grasp complex issues quickly and communicate these simply and effectively;
  • Good IT skills, including experience of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent Czech and English (written and spoken).

  • Clear understanding and knowledge of current foreign and security policy issues;
  • An understanding of how government policy is made in the Czech Republic.

This is a full-time position for a maternity cover contract.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic in order to apply.
