View Vacancy - KL - Alumni, Youth Engagement & Chevening Officer, B3 (L)
The Alumni, Youth Engagement & Chevening Officer will oversee the British High Commission’s youth engagement strategy in Malaysia, building effective networks of contacts with future leaders to deliver UK objectives. This will involve the development of relationships with young people, including UK university alumni, from a wide range of sectors (including politics, business, government, and civil society); and identifying high performing Chevening scholars to study in the UK.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Manage and promote the Chevening Scholarship Programme, working closely with the Chevening Scholarships Officer:
- Marketing the Chevening programme in Malaysia.
- Producing engaging communications content to promote Chevening
- Managing and coordinating the Chevening interview process
- Organising and delivering key Chevening events, including pre-departure briefing, welcome back event, and the Chevening Talk Series
- Supporting wider engagement with the Chevening Alumni
Drive forward the High Commission’s youth engagement, primarily through our Successor Generation Initiative (SGI) that aims to build links with Malaysians under 35 who have the potential to be future leaders in Malaysia in a variety of fields:
- Developing and implementing the BHC youth engagement strategy
- Empowering, engaging, and advising the SGI Advisory Board
- Planning and delivering creative events for the SGI network
- Pro-actively identifying opportunities to contribute to wider BHC objectives through SGI
- Maintaining the SGI database
- Supporting the FCO’s International Leaders Programme
Identify, map, and build on existing relationships with key UK alumni in Malaysia relevant to priority areas for the BHC:
- Developing and maintaining an effective alumni database
- Developing the relationship with the British Council and UK educational institutions
- Identifying opportunities where alumni can contribute to BHC objectives
Fluent in spoken and written English
- Strong networking skills and ability to engage with a range of diverse contacts
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Personal drive and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Flexibility and resilience under pressure
- Experience working with youth organisations or in the field of education
- Understanding of the UK university system
- Existing contacts in relevant areas
The British High Commission offers a competitive remuneration package, benefits, leave entitlement of 20 days per annum (calculated on pro rata basis) and a range of learning and development opportunities including courses, access to significant on line training materials and on the job learning and development opportunities.
Flexible working patterns, including working from home, are possible subject to agreement with the Hiring Manager and operational needs. There may be a requirement to work non conditioned hours on occasion, including at weekends on an exceptional basis.
