The British Embassy in Czech Republic is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas while maintaining the relationship between the UK and the host country.

The British Embassy in Prague is now offering an internship opportunity for a highly motivated university student who will join one of the three departments - Department for International Trade (DIT), Press and Public Affairs Department or Political Section in this unique and challenging time. The embassy expects to have different slots, in total 9 internship slots to be filled with start dates upon availability of the successful candidate and the Embassy's sections need. Details are to be discussed during interview. 

Roles and responsibilities

The intern will be able to choose between the Department for International Trade, the Press and Public Affairs Department and the Political Section. In each of these roles they will assist the members of the department with delivery of various campaign projects and other department specific activities.

 

The DIT is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to succeed in Czech Republic and other international markets. The key roles and responsibilities:

  • To provide administrative support to the local & regional campaign team
  • To help organize business focused events, seminars and meetings
  • To conduct market research, validation of contacts and arrangement of meetings to assist UK companies to identify business opportunities in CR
  • To update databases and current records using internal tools

 

 

The Press and Public Affairs Team is responsible for the public facing components of the Embassy’s work. The intern will have an opportunity to gain experience in an environment with wide range of responsibilities in the area of media relations, foreign policy and public diplomacy. The key responsibilities:

  • To support the Press and Public Affairs Team in completion of daily tasks, ongoing campaigns and projects
  • To assist with variety of internal and external events
  • To assist with Embassy’s digital presence and create engaging social media content
  • To conduct media monitoring of Czech and British media landscape and create internal briefs
  • Ad-hoc support of the team’s activities in the field of digital outreach and media relations

 

The Political Section is responsible for political relations between the UK and the CR and pursues to increase bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields including foreign policy.

The key roles and responsibilities:

  • To assist with the section’s projects and events
  • To arrange meetings supporting the bilateral cooperation and diplomatic relations between CR and UK
  • To  research, draft and collate briefings and reports
  • To develop background documents
  • To complete ad-hoc work requests from across the team
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English and Czech
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Good level of computer literacy (including Microsoft Office)
  • Willingness to learn

DIT: Understanding of the business environment in the Czech Republic and the UK and University background in relevant field would be an advantage for the internship at the Department of International Trade.

Press and Public Affairs Team: Knowledge of social media and Czech media landscape would be an advantage for the internship at the Press and Public Affairs Team.

Political: Knowledge of politics, EU affairs and international relations would be an advantage for the internship in the Political Section.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic in order to apply.
