The British Consulate General in Jerusalem has vacancies for two (2) Security Officers, job grade S1 to start as soon as possible.

This role is open to both male and female candidates. This position is full-time, based on 40 hours per week and will involving working on shifts.

Purpose of the job:

The successful candidates will provide security at the British Consulate-General, Jerusalem.

They will work as part of an established and capable security team to ensure the safety and security of staff and families at the Embassy while working in a shift rotation pattern.

You must have strong communication skills and the ability to give clear and concise advice on a range of security topics, corresponding to your position and as per policy and procedure.

Duties and responsibilities:

Working as part of a team on a shift roster, the candidate will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties, as directed by the Regional Overseas Security Manager, Post Security Manager and Shift Supervisors, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting security checks, including physical searches of personnel and vehicles, monitoring CCTV, operating a UHF radio network, and patrolling on foot and by vehicle.
  • Assisting on visits and events, including field deployments.
  • Dealing with members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Reacting to incidents and issues in a calm, disciplined manner as part of a team.
  • Undertaking learning and development to develop skills, as well as understanding policy and procedures to be implemented in the day-to-day role.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK Citizens.

    • Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly.
    •  At least two (2) years of relevant experience in a customer focussed background, or commercial security or diplomatic security with checkable references.
    • Able to work variable shifts and weekends at two separate locations.
    • A team player who is capable of working on their initiative and who is adaptable to changing priorities. Must be able to work and act without close supervision and react calmly to situations that may arise.
    • Strong customer focus and ability to deliver quality service.
    • Courtesy and consideration in dealing with staff, customers and visitors to the Embassy.
    • Able to present a professional image of self and the Embassy.
    • Good organisational skills and flexibility to manage and prioritise tasks.
    • Good IT and computer skills. Proficiency in using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
    • Local geographical knowledge within Jerusalem and the West Bank.
          • Written and spoken Hebrew would be an advantage but is not essential,
          • B grade driving licence.

          Eligibility:

          If you are selected for this position, the Consulate General will be able to employ you as long as you:

          • Receive the appropriate level of standard security clearance; and 
          • currently hold a valid local work permit or be able to secure one to work in Jerusalem

          Working hours:

          The security team works 365 days a year and covers a 24 hours per day. Working hours are at 40 hours per week, shift based 8 hours, 5 days a week including weekends and public holidays.

          This position for a full-time employment, on a permanent contract basis.

          The British Consulate General actively promotes learning and development including through a dedicated learning and development committee. All staff have the opportunity to develop their own personal development plan and receive feedback and support from their line manager. Staff have access to activities organised by the learning and development committee and to a range of online learning opportunities through the FCDO’s International Academy.
