The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Bespoke Assessing Entry Clearance Officer (BA ECO) on a temporary contract starting March 2019. This is a fixed term contract for an initial period of six (6) months in response to seasonal demand.

The objective of this role is to provide high quality, efficient and non-discriminatory visa application processing which meets published standards and to provide all customers with a firm, fast and fair service.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assess and resolve visa applications within agreed benchmarks. You must be able to analyse information and reach a decision quickly and be able to justify this decision both orally and in writing. BA ECOs are expected to meet challenging daily workload targets.
  • Be able to identify when a visa application would need to be refused and when to be able to process in line with the UK Immigration Rules.
  • Ensure that all correspondence is considered and reports or replies prepared within target times in clear and concise English.
  • Deal professionally with all callers to the Visa Section, whether on the telephone or in person, ensuring that people are treated fairly and responding sensitively to differences.

Key competencies required:

  • Making Effective Decisions - Using sound judgement, evidence, and knowledge to provide accurate, expert and professional advice and evaluating options before arriving at well-reasoned justifiable decisions. Creating evidence-based strategies, evaluating options, impacts, risks and solutions, and aiming to maximise return while minimising risk and balancing social, political, financial, economic and environmental considerations to provide sustainable outcomes.
  • Delivering at Pace - Focusing on delivering timely performance with energy and taking responsibility and accountability for quality outcomes. Working to agreed goals and activities and dealing with challenges in a responsive and constructive way.

Employment of successful candidates will only be confirmed following the successful completion of the Bespoke Assessing Entry Clearance Officer course. This is a pass/ fail examined course and you must be available to attend once the course date is confirmed.

The ideal candidates should also possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A proven track record of working quickly and reliably with little supervision and meeting challenging targets on a daily basis.
  • Capable of making quick decisions in accordance with set rules and able to show that these decisions are fair and just on all occasions.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a target driven environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Computer literate. Experienced in using Microsoft Office applications and with accurate typing skills of at least 25 words per minute. You must be prepared to provide evidence of this during the interview. You can check your typing speed by entering the words ‘typing test’ into a web search engine such as Google and selecting one of the providers of free typing speed tests.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, with an IELTS score at a minimum of level 6.5 or an equivalent qualification, or evidence of secondary/ higher education in the medium of English.
  • Have passed the BA ECO Course within the past two years or worked as a BA ECO in that time frame.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 5,534.53
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 1,383.63 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.


No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08:00 to 15:00 Sunday to Thursday. This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

Eligibility:

The position is only available to Saudi nationals and holders of Saudi residence permits or transferable Iqamas. Successful candidates will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.

The successful applicant will also be required to obtain the necessary security clearance. Higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities. For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian, or New Zealand nationality in order to gain the level of clearance required.
