SDI is looking to recruit a Trade and Investment Officer based in Melbourne to support the work of the existing team in Australia and New Zealand.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Executive support

  • Provide efficient and effective daily administration co-ordination and support for the Country Manager ANZ. This will involve planning and organising meetings and associated paperwork, database management, travel bookings, expenses and office management.
  • Act as the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders in ANZ and handle customer enquiries professionally and appropriately as a representative of the Scottish Government.
  • Proactively develop and maintain a professional network of contacts and a customer and stakeholder engagement plan.
  • Liaison to Global Scot network and multiple stakeholder networks.

Trade and investment

  • Work with others to collate and communicate market research, intelligence and insights.
  • Work with Scottish companies to support them to win business in Australia and NZ. This will involve planning and organising vists to Australia and NZ and helping companies to meet potential customers.
  • Assist the Country Manager, ANZ to build a pipeline of inward investment projects by identifying leads, researching company infomation, cold calling, establishing initial connections with companies, attending conferences etc.
  • Plan and organise events, including trade missions and marketing and social media campaigns.
  • Support the work of the wider South East Asia and Asia Pacific teams as appropriate.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel will be required.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Providing accurate research, analysis and reporting on various aspects within the Australian and NZ market, ranging from industry overviews to comments on niche products and services. The ability to turn  this data into concise summaries or accurate market reports
  • Providing event management support for visitor programmes, Scottish company launches, trade missions, exhibitions, conferences and other internal and external SDI events
  • Excellent organisational and administratie skills, process orientated with a practical approach to multi-tasking and problem solving
  • Strong IT skills – ability for interrogation and maintainance of databases as well as good skills in all MS products
  • Strong emotional intelligence and experience of complex stakeholder management
  • Self motivated and adaptable with an ability to work autonomously
  • Degree in business administration, management, economics or related discipline
  • Positive attitude and capability to work autonomously
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and across geographies & time zones
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Able to proactively ask questions
  • Strong experience working across cross-functional teams and a matrix structure organisation
  • Experience of working in international business or trade and investment promotion.
  • Knowledge of CRM databases
  • Experienced user of social media to highlight business opportunities and market trends to customers

Salary is at AU$ 62,473 per annum (paid out monthly), calculated pro-rata, plus 11% superannuation.

Initial appointment is for two years with the possibility of further contract extension.  The formal job description may be subject to amendment in the future.

Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.
