The Department for International Trade (DIT) section in the British Embassy is now recruiting a local staff Senior Investment Adviser, based in Brussels. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual who is a team-player and would like to work in a modern, open-planned environment with attractive learning and development opportunities.

The Department for International Trade is the UK government organisation that supports UK companies trading internationally and overseas enterprises looking to locate in the UK.

As part of a small investment team, you will work with the Head of Investment in developing and delivering the inward investment strategy for the UK in Belgium. Your priority will be to attract, retain and add value to foreign direct investment in the UK. The investment team covers a wide range of sectors from Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, Food & Drink, Automotive, Renewable Energy, Digital Economy and Financial Services. You will lead on a number of these sectors, with a focus on closing high value investment against challenging targets. You will also lead on marketing and communications for the wider trade and investment team, feeding into the Embassy communications strategy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research target sectors and undertake lead generation to uncover new investment opportunities;

  • Project manage investment projects;

  • Key account manage existing investors;
  • Client-face including meetings, taking both email and telephone enquiries and providing practical business information to companies;

  • Market the UK as the number one business investment location;

  • Create and organise DIT activities such as roundtable events, sector-themed seminars and missions, as well as support wider Embassy events;

  • Manage DIT Belgium internal and external communications channels including social media;

  • Support wider Embassy activities including providing business information and attending meetings with the Ambassador and other senior management when required.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively;
  • Flexibility and a proactive attitude;
  • Effective time management; ability to prioritise work;
  • Results driven and ability to deliver against challenging targets;
  • Fluent written and spoken English, working level knowledge of Dutch and/or French.

  • Experience of dealing with business in an international context;
  • Knowledge of the Belgian and UK business scenes;
  • Knowledge or previous work experience in any of the priority sectors listed;
  • Previous experience in business development.

This is a fixed-term full-time contract for 5 working days (36.5 hours net) per week.

The monthly gross salary for this position is €3,681.33 B3 (L) level (The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium salaries are not subject to annual indexation).

Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
