The British High Commission in Nicosia is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Prosperity and Programmes Manager.

This job will involve strengthening and developing engagement with Cyprus across a broad range of UK interests, but particularly in the area of climate change as the UK builds towards hosting COP26 in November 2021.  You will lobby and advocate for Cyprus to be ambitious in its efforts to tackle climate change and support the UK agenda for COP26, with the aim of establishing the UK locally as a global leader on climate science and action.

You will also be responsible for delivering UK objectives to expand our relationship with the government and the communities on the island, reduce tension and increase interaction between the communities by overseeing a programme of project activity with government, civil society and other stakeholders.  These projects cover a broad range of issues and themes across the island.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Programme Management -  Oversight of all project work, working with others in the High Commission team to identify bids/implementers through their networks but control of bids from concept through to monitoring, delivery and evaluation.

  • Climate – Lead British High Commission activity in the run up to the COP26 meeting in the UK later this year, devising engagement plans, lobbying the Republic of Cyprus, working up projects and public events to highlight UK policies and encourage Republic of Cyprus engagement, provide input to wider communication strategy on island on climate issues.

  • Economics – Reporting for a UK audience on Cyprus economic policy, including science, innovation, technology and digital issues.


  • Excellent English and Greek language skills (C1 level or above under the CEFR*);

  • Extensive experience of programme management, preferably in the public policy or academic space;

  • Ability to provide strategic input to support policy goals, including through project delivery;

  • Ability to make and use contacts, including at senior levels;

  • Very good IT skills, especially MS Office;

  • Ability to work under pressure both unsupervised and as part of a team;

  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate it to others;

  • Self-motivation and initiative.

  • University-level degree in either economics, climate or environmental studies;

  • Experience of working in an international environment.

This is a full-time fixed term contract for 1 year with possibility of extension.

The gross monthly salary for this position is €3,463 gross at C4(L) grade level.

The confirmation of appointment is subject to professional background checks and security clearance procedures, as well as the successful completion of a 6 months probation period.

The successful candidate must be free of any convictions, and undergo a UK security clearance process.
