The British Embassy in Pristina, Kosovo, is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a full-time officer focussing on Counter Terrorism (CT), Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) and Serious Organised Crime (SOC). The successful candidate will also provide consular support to British Nationals.

Working to the Head of Section responsible for Rule of Law and Internal Security, the role will make a contribution towards UK objectives for a secure, peaceful and prosperous Kosovo. The main role is to help the team develop an understanding, and deliver support on, Counter Terrorism, Counter Violent Extremism and Serious Organised Crime issues in Kosovo. The role will do this through regular reporting, working with project implementers and subject experts in HMG. The successful candidate will also support the maintaining of relationships with Kosovo security institutions and facilitating access for regionally based officers, as well as providing occasional cover for our Consular regional team.

This is an exciting new role with opportunities for the successful candidate to bring creativity and learn subject matter expertise. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Section,but will work with a broad range of regional teams including assistance in delivering support to British nationals in Kosovo. The successful candidate will need some knowledge of the security situation in Kosovo, willingness to work with others, verbal and written communication skills.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Report on and maintain a record of CT, CVE and SOC developments in Kosovo.
  • Support relationship building between UK regional teams and Kosovan counterparts.
  • Support visits helping smooth delivery of activities in coordination with Kosovan partners.
  • Provide support to SOC work in coordination with internal teams.
  • Support Consular service delivery with our officer in Albania.


  • Minimum two years of experience working for an international organisation or public institution;
  • University degree;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English C1 level, and to be a native speaker in one of Kosovo’s two official languages;
  • IT proficiency;
  • Organisational skills; 
  • Communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Resilience.

  • Experience of CT, CVE, SOC or rule of law issues in Kosovo;
  • Knowledge of Kosovo strategic priorities, or previous experience of working in development assistance; 
  • Some project management experience or project management qualification.

The Embassy promotes flexible working and will support a number of options in line with the Embassy’s Flexible Working Policy. For this role, the job holder must be able to work full time and be present in the office for at least three days.

The job holder must be able to work full time. Some work may be required during the evenings and occasionally weekends, for which overtime or time off in lieu (where applicable) will be given. The job holder may be required to travel within and outside of Kosovo.

Employees recruited locally by the British Embassy in Pristina are subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law in Kosovo, as interpreted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Employees who are not eligible to pay local income tax: e.g. certain third-country nationals and spouses/partners of UK diplomats will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
