The British Embassy, Riyadh has a vacancy for a Financial Services & Investment Advisor, Grade C4 (L).

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is a new Department of State within British Government. DIT has responsibility for the promotion of international trade overseas and works with UK based companies to ensure their success in international markets.  The Department also works to attract high quality foreign direct and capital investment into the UK

DIT in Saudi Arabia consists of a network of three trade teams based in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar. The teams work closely together to deliver services to our customers.

The role

Half of post holder’s time will be spent working directly with the Embassy’s Head of Investment to promote capital investment between the Kingdoms of Saudi Arabia and the UK. The other half of the post holder’s time will be spent leading the Embassy’s Financial Services work which feeds into DIT’s wider Financial Services High Value Campaign (HVC) covering the Gulf region.

Main duties and responsibilities:

On the investment side, the post holder’s key responsibilities will be:

  • Implementing strategies and plans to identify Saudi Arabia’s key financial institutions, private offices and HNWIs who are well placed to make high quality capital investments into the UK (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), particularly into UK sectors with heavy R&D, innovative and/or job creation components. 
  • Supporting the Embassy’s Head of Investment to account manage key Saudi Arabian institutions, plus maintaining and proactively developing strategic contacts with appropriate Saudi stakeholders and DIT colleagues.  All such tasks contribute towards HMG’s £1trn of FDI by 2020. 

On the Financial Services side, the post holder will be in close liaison with DIT’s UK-based Financial Services Organisation to help deliver the Gulf region’s Financial and Professional Services HVC:

  • Identifying and meeting key stakeholders in financial institutions, assessing their interest in the UK market, facilitating introductions to UK FSO specialists. 
  • Carrying out reporting and administrative duties associated with both Investment and Financial Services.

Further responsibilities which take account of both sides of the role include:

  • Contributing to business development and ministerial visits, such as UK Secretaries of State, Ministers and Royal Family members, including visit out to Saudi Arabia and back to the UK.  In some instances, the post holder will lead on such visits, particularly those which centre on finance e.g. the Lord Mayor of London.
  • Developing and maintaining Saudi Government relations related to investment and financial services.
  • Where necessary, providing the wider DIT team in Saudi Arabia with in-country support including (but not limited to) official programmes, trade missions, events and trade shows.

Essential:

  • Financial Services experience (including Private Equity, Wealth Management, Asset Management, Investment Management); experience of international investment.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) in English.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Team player who is capable of working on their own initiative.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to deliver quality service
  • Collaborative approach to colleague and stakeholder partnerships
  • Proven record of organisational ability.

 

Desirable:        

  • Written and spoken Arabic language skills.

Salary details:

 Base Salary including Eid Bonus – SAR. 12,924.17/-

  • * Housing Allowance – SAR. 3,231.04/- (subject to eligibility)
  • * Travel Allowance- SAR. 400/-(subject to eligibility)

 *Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08.00 to 15.00 Sunday to Thursday.  This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week.

The job offers the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of the public and private sector both in the UK and Saudi Arabia, and to build up knowledge of specific sectors. It would be an excellent career stepping-stone for anyone with an interest in international trade. The job-holder will interact with companies and officials at all levels. Training and occasional travel to the UK, across the Kingdom and elsewhere in the Gulf region are an integral part of the job. There is a requirement for occasional out of hours working, for example to attend official networking events.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 day probationary period.   

Eligibility:

The position is only available to holders of Saudi residence permits or transferable Iqamas, and the successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to us.  This position is only available to those persons to whom a security clearance can be granted (UK, US, Australian, Canadian or New Zealand nationals).
