SDI (Scottish Development International)
  • Promote trade and investment between China and Scotland.
  • Act in the capacity as Chief Representative of SDI’s Representative Office in Beijing.
  • Manage a team of c4-6 individuals with defined trade and investment roles and responsibilities.
  • Identify and develop inward investment leads and apply consultative sales techniques to enable the development of a pipeline in inward investment project in a diverse range of sectors.
  • Support wider work to deliver China market insights and support Scottish companies from a wide range of sectors to access business opportunities in China.
  • Initiate, design and lead the delivery of senior and ministerial visits to Beijing and North China.
  • Influence and manage senior relationship with customers partner organisations in Beijing and act as SDI’s most senior representative in Beijing and North China.
  • Contribute to the Greater China management Team and contribute to the development and delivery of an overall country Plan for Greater China.
  • Contribute to the leadership and management of SDI’s Asia Pacific operations as required.  

What will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

  • Compliance with and best practice in the implementation of organisational wide systems and processes.
  • Initiation and delivery of inward investment project wins leading to new jobs and investment in Scotland in accordance with an agreed plan and sales process.#
  • Detailed market insights.
  • Expert advice to businesses on their market access strategies for China.
  • Influence over partner organisations and alignment of approaches.
  • Visible leadership for SDI in Beijing.
  • Minimum 8-10 years experience in international trade and investment or business development.
  • Strong awareness and experience of Chinese outbound investment.
  • Sophisticated leadership and management competencies (emotional intelligence/cultural awareness)
  • Influencing, representing and political skills and experience.
  • Track record of significant business development within a sales related environment
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout China.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with a high level of confidence and competence in influencing at a senior level
  • Ability to work well under pressure to tight deadlines in a highly challenging and demanding environment where initiative and judgement is required.
  • Experience of living and working in Scotland or the UK.
  • An excellent understanding of economic development in a global context.
  • Previous experience of project management

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross salary (before all deductions) is from CNY 30,136 month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary from CNY 39,316/ month for British Nationals and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.

We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata.

Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/ week from Monday to Friday and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs.
