The British Embassy in Moscow is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an IT Team Leader.

The propose of the role is to work as part of the Russia Network Corporate Services team providing support, maintenance, and improvements to the network IT and IP infrastructure. The job holders will deliver the effective management of the British Embassy’s low classification IT systems and ensure effective processes and procedures are in place for maintenance of the network infrastructure, monitoring service standards, improving performance and ensuring compliance.

Candidates must hold British, US, Australian, New Zealand or Canadian passports. The Embassy is looking for two officers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

IT and IP infrastructure maintenance: work with colleagues across the network and in the UK to ensure the IT and IP infrastructure is fit for purpose, and effectively managed and maintained. This includes:

  • Setting systems in place to ensure regular preventative maintenance is undertaken, and planned and ad hoc upgrades are carried out;
  • Ensuring hardware stocks are adequate and fit for purpose;
  • Organising re-builds, and ensuring replacement equipment is ordered and received and old items are disposed of properly.

Crisis Management: To manage the Embassy’s IT resilience during crisis periods with a particular focus on being prepared.

ICT support: to monitor service requests and ensure quality and speed of service is maintained in line with published service standards. This includes:

  • Supporting the team in resolving complex problems and queries, working with London helpdesks, and other technical experts both regionally and at post as required;
  • Responsible for ensuring the IT equipment inventories and disposal records are correctly maintained, and the information management system is updated;
  • Management of the local users on the network, ensuring users are added and removed as required, and correct documentation is maintained.

General Support: to ensure FCO ICT policy is enforced at all times and correct documentation (including signed SOP’s) are held for audit purposes. This includes:

  • Oversight of stock levels - including procurement and storage;
  • Dissemination of all relevant ICT related information and guidance to users;
  • Responsible for ICT delivery under the business continuity and crisis planning process. Ensuring the relevant systems and equipment are in place and tested.
  • A good understanding of IT issues/IT skills. We will provide training;
  • Good organisational skills and customer service experience;
  • An experienced problem solver, preferably in a customer services role;
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English;
  • Key FCO competences: Leading and Communicating; Making Effective Decisions; Managing a Quality Service and Changing and Improving. 
  • Previous experience of managing teams in similar environments;
  • Understanding of FCO systems and policies;
  • Knowledge of financial and budgeting processes:
  • Some Russian language skills would be useful but can be developed on the job.

This is a full-time permanent position, for 5 working days, 35 hours net per week.

The monthly salary for this position is Rub 91,705 gross, B3 (L) level, paid 13 times a year.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
